People always say that time flies faster the older you get, and it’s true, because time is a human construct that is meaningless without context. When you’re 5 years old, 1 year is a long fucking time. When you’re 100 years old, 1 year ain’t shit.

August 11, 2011 at 2:30 PM #717848AKParticipant
I just got the Good Faith Estimate, and it seems like the numbers are all over the place.
Is it true that she is just trying to get approval right now and the numbers don’t matter that much?
I’d call and e-mail to clarify the numbers. Things like loan payoff amount and daily interest charges are just guesses at this point but I’d definitely clear up any differences in things like origination fee, discount points, title insurance, and so on.
In my case the lender threw in $700 or so for an unnecessary appraisal and transfer taxes. I was assured those were just sloppy preparation and that the fees would be removed. I guess we’ll see … if not I’ll start screaming “RESPA violation.”
Sometimes I’m not sure how much GF is in the GFE. I think one of the problems is that the GFE has been offshored to BFE.

AK, this is true in that your loan officer is not sitting down with you and generating your GFE (formerly “Reg Z”) on a form by hand with his/her calculator. Your GFE now comes by way of a (distant) computer or fax machine “who” has NO IDEA what the County of SD charges for this or that or what reasonable and customary charges are for an ALTA title policy in CA, flood certification, etc, etc :={
