Tried out the Credit Karma site.
You start the process by providing info.
They send you a secure email where you have to complete the process and provide SS.
They give you a credit score and tell you how it relates in comparrison to others.
I am interested to see how many marketers are now going to contact me. Hopefully not too many as I am on the DNC but that stuff doesn’t bug me too much anyway.
Pretty easy site to use. Helpful for tracking changes in your credit as it shows positive and negative impacts on credit. The score itself is not all that helpful except if you use in in relation to others.
For instance if you have 870 you are in the 85th percentile of people. If your scored improved the following month to 900 you are tightening up your credit history. On the flip side if it drop to 800 you must have a derogatory showing up on the report. Either way this is helpful but useless if you are using the actual score for lending or rather borrowing purposes.
To convert the score to estimated FICO try subtracting 90 from teh Credit Karma score and it should be withing a cople fo points. It was for me.
