Immigration stands as Obama’s most glaring failure.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/immigration-stands-as-obamas-most-glaring-failure/Point being, this discussion is fake and hypocrisy is rampant.
Failure because of Republican obstruction. Bush wanted immigration reform also.
That’s why the work must go on. I fail to see the hypocrisy on the Democrats’ side. We cared, we wanted to get it done, and we failed. We will try again.

Immigration is based on what the big players and maybe to a less extent the general economy gains and loses, by it not by what party is in.
You fail to understand the process and want to say everything is bad.
If what you say is true, then the anti-immigration stance among Trump supporters is not just hypocritical but delusional.
I can accept the charge of hypocrisy if you put it context. It’s off the charts on the Republican side.
October 16, 2016 at 7:14 AM #802410enron_by_the_seaParticipantIf Trump’s current wife indeed worked while being on tourist visa then she broke immigration law.
If she broke immigration law, her citizenship can be revoked. That is as illegal act as the people crossing over border without visa to this country and working.
Since Trump and his supporters has made illegal immigration such a big issue this cycle, they should step up and and assure Americans that his wife is better than “illegal immigrants” in following immigration laws like he promised. But he won’t because there is probably something there that he doesn’t want you to see.

Please tell me – what are women made of? Not for a moment has Trump made me self reflective.

I know it doesn’t apply to you, that’s where the half truth part comes in.October 16, 2016 at 10:09 AM #802415NotCrankyParticipantI don’t want everything to be bad , Brian.. I am just messing with your rabid black and white stances all bad Rep all good Dem.
Like Melania, many times it’s been said Bill is not running for president but you want to go birther on some possible micro issue with her immigration path. They you say trump supporters are hypocrites. Nope, not the one’s I know, they don’t hire illegals and pay them under the table and they didn’t immigrate someone illegal through marriage. Can’t blame them for attaching their Americans first value hopes to Trump for reasons of his rhetoric if nothing else.
Bill is a better target because he has been president before, makes the situation reek of Dynasty. Has share obstruction efforts with H in the highest place in gov. and on and on.
You make the generalization Rep. hate immigration and Dems are on the right side of it but I point out what Reagan and Bush did, you pointed out what junior bush wanted do and I am going to point at the Jeb , a republican, would want to do something pro-immigration while more people were deported under Obama than under any other president. You understand the process , but refuse to try to have a balanced view of the players and the politics.
There’s contradiction right there. If Trump supporters want an immigration hardline, should they not look at Melania and her path to citizenship? Look in the mirror, duh.
Democrats understand the vagaries of life and support immigration forbearance. In San Diego, one can easily meet and fall in love with someone who’s undocumented. Undocumented workers who have nowhere else to go do need to work and make a living like everyone else. Isn’t that what human rights and compassion are all about? No hypocrisy.
The players right now are Donald and Hillary. How do Reagan and Bush mitigate for Trump? The Jeb wing of the Republican party has be sidelined into silence. Ana Navarro, a Bushy, is saying the very same things I am, except for support for Hillary. The reality is that Republicans nominated Trump. They are responsible for him until they kick him out and kill his brand of culture. Up to them.
Bill’s issues have been thoroughly litigated before. Dredging them up is just filthy low class behavior. Very Trump.
The women accusing Trump are only coming forward now because of his own statements. Hillary has nothing to do with them.
For a more macro look, yes I understand very well why there is such support for Trump. yes, there is a culture war which Republibans started with Pat Buchanan.
There’s a retrograde nativist, populist culture against an open, educated, cosmopolitan culture. It’s basically “neighborhood people” against “cosmopolitans”.EJ Dione wrote a nice article. But he also said the first priority is to elect Hillary.

When you say these are “at worst” half truths, it leaves open the possibility that you believe what you say is entirely true (or entirely false – depending on what you think is worse). But assuming the facts in a light most favorable to you – what are half the women and “gays” made of? This should be interesting.October 16, 2016 at 1:35 PM #802419AnonymousGuest
I don’t want everything to be bad , Brian.. Well that was only 99% gibberish.
It is fascinating – the way some can talk in circles and not even realize they are doing it.

Doesn’t really refer to what gays are made of.
Nothing favorable in it for me.
October 17, 2016 at 2:31 PM #802430FlyerInHiGuestBill Maher’s take on Donald Trump.
October 17, 2016 at 3:18 PM #802431FlyerInHiGuestSo this is the latest on Melania’s immigration status.
Melania released a letter from a lawyer indicating she got an H1-B, a program that Trump opposes and promised to end. After the H1-B, she self-sponsored for a green card. Problem is that an immigrant cannot self sponsor from H1-B to green card. An employer must sponsor.
Also H1-B requires a bachelor degree or better, something Melania doesn’t have.
Still plenty of unanswered questions that Trump could easily put to rest by releasing Melania’s immigration file.

1) Fashion models do not need bachelor, or equivalent for H-1B (sometimes referenced as H1B, but not H1-B).
2) Immigrants of extraordinary abilities can self-sponsor under EB-1. -
