I live in RSD and I agree with Porkman. There are definitely some good buys out here and with the larger lots, room for organic gardening. It does get warmer than North Park though.

June 28, 2010 at 1:59 PM #573543MostlyLurkParticipantAny recommendations on where we might visit to see who our new neighbors would be if we were to live there?
For example, here in North Mission Hills, (not North Park) I’ve met a lot of my neighbors in Pioneer Park, there is a playground for kids and a lot of people walk their dogs there too.
Also, is there a sort of greenbelt area in Rancho San Diego? Is there a neighborhood where are we likely to find house/property with more green and usable land as opposed to the rockier, more sloped, drier areas?
I would like to rent in the area before buying, but there doesn’t seem to be much for rent in the area that is similar to what we would buy…the places on craigslist are small lots, smaller homes or apartments.

A particular yard might have that but the neighbors won’t all follow suit or there will be open space that is dry in the summer or both situations exist. With a smaller lot of course your choices get much bigger….but then perhaps La Mesa would be better.
This is nice property, seemingly in line with your interests, north of the golf courses, but with one big flaw being that it appears to be adjacent Willow Glen Road.
http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-100024308-1539_Willow_Bend_Dr_El_Cajon_CA_92019I find the heart of Rancho San Diego to be nothing more or less than a suitable suburb. It does have the family orientation and the retirement thing going on simultaneously, IMO. Of course, to the east you have Jamul, which is basically the Rancho Santa Fe of the south county(inside joke).
The parks are pretty clean and safe as far as I have experienced with fairly frequent use. If you want to see your potential neighbors, I would go to the library, new YMCA, grocery store and movie theatre. My family mostly makes contact with people in the region through our direct neighbors or through the kid’s school and sports team participation. We are very happy with the parents, teachers, coaches ect. that we meet.
