Retracted
May 4, 2007 at 11:05 AM #51852DrewParticipantWhen I first came to piggington about 15 months ago, I thought to myself, “wow, this powayseller gal has her data together”. However, after seeing the tone of her posts cascade into emotional rants and attacks, I lost faith in her ability to provide an objective analysis.
Her final posts on piggington and comments like these on the VOSD site (if its really her) are akin to crooked attorneys or investigators that wrongly prosecute innocent people. I know this is a horrendous apples/oranges comparison 🙂 But its the same type of mentality — letting your emotions dictate rather than the facts.
Personally, I think piggington is great because of the “everyone else bring data” philosophy. Also I prefer the objective opinions that people like sdrealtor, SD Realtor, etc. post here, because frankly, it keeps me “honest”. As much as I would like to see housing prices plummet to a level that would allow me to use my previous home’s equity to purchase another home outright, I think that people marching to this beat will most likely be in for a big letdown.

I still love her website though, those crayon drawing overlays on the charts really crack me up.|link=node|align=left|width=466|height=285]

I like how she lists one of her consulting credentials as “avoided investing in tech stocks in 1999” – a credential shared by her and most 10-year olds.
Strangely, “gambled big on the S&P 500 crash of Spring 2007 and lost my ass” isn’t listed.

I sure hope you all dont think I’m a scary whacko. Heck I’m just having a little fun and trying to keep everyone honest. For those new here, the exchanges between PS and myself were pretty entertaining, at least from my perspective. Here’s a little history for how it all got going. She posted enough information about that sale of her home that anyone with MLS access could easily figure out who she was. When I figured out who she was I took here to task for calling herself “powayseller” which is an outright incorrect statement. Her house was in an unicorporated portion of San Diego County and actually had a Lakeside mailing address. It was not in Poway by any definition but had access to Poway Schools. I called her “Lakesideseller” and “PowaySchooldistrict seller” and it infuriated her. She got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and never recovered. She maintained that I was a creepy stalker and tried to claim she feared for her safety. I told her over and over that I would never identify her and that she had nothing to fear but her embaressment at getting caught in a lie was too much for her to admit. BTW, I’m about as harmless as they come and can honestly say I’ve never raised a hand in anger to anyone in my life.
Nonetheless, I became the villian and she the crusader of bubblehead rights. It was fun while it lasted until it became apparent to me that she was not playing with a full deck and was far more caustic than myself so about 6 months ago I lost interest in the whole spate. Plus by that time, she had alienated enough people, that it was equally entertaining to watch her irrational rants as a spectator.
I can honestly say, I hope she find peace in her life because she’s not in good place right now. She’s become too infatuated with her self proclaimed pseudo-celebrity status and though she is obviously very bright she doesnt seem to be making smart decisions these days.
May 4, 2007 at 3:20 PM #51877CritterParticipantSo, PS is BS, screen-name and otherwise. Thanks for giving us the backstory.
May 4, 2007 at 3:22 PM #51878daveljParticipantDear Diary,
Why don’t people take me more seriously? I mean, I’ve been totally right about everything that I’ve ever posted on the internet except for all those times when I’ve been completely wrong and it’s been pointed out to me in the most unceremonious fashion by those evil Piggingtonians. Anyhow, back to the drawing board. Note to self: Remember to order the steel bars for the windows and the new security system. I fear for my safety, Diary. Really, I do. Especially from sdrealtor and Rich. If I die under strange circumstances, Diary, please point the police in the direction of the aforementioned. I’m sure they will be found culpable.
Yours always,
PowaysellerMay 4, 2007 at 3:25 PM #51879sdduuuudeParticipantAs I walk through the halls at work, the words “Rich Poo Poo Head” pop into my head for no apparent reason and I simply bust out laughing. That really struck my funny bone.
May 4, 2007 at 3:37 PM #51881woodrowParticipantI had a couple of minor spats with “lakesideseller” (thanks for the backstory, sdrealtor) when she began posting very shallow analysis which made it obvious for anyone with an economics background to understand that she had absolutely no economic training/experience. She misused terms and concepts and refused to listen when it was pointed out to her.
She railed against people who thought they were geniuses for buying a home and riding the equity wave up, but then fell into the same trap by considering herself some kind of investment guru because she sold before the crash.
I wonder how long she’ll keep her website alive? It’s obvious that it’s a waste of time and money – her motivation has to be waning. I give it mid-summer, tops.
May 4, 2007 at 4:03 PM #51883avidsaverParticipantAs one of the regular “novice lurkers” on this site, I have to say that I’m pretty disappointed by her letter (with the “if it was really her” disclaimer). What was her point? Boy am glad I didn’t follow her advice to keep 80% of my assets in cash! Woulda missed out on the equity run-ups this year…
May 4, 2007 at 5:24 PM #51888sdduuuudeParticipantI’m thinking the answer to this thread:
http://piggington.com/does_powayseller_post_too_much
is “yes”, then ?
May 4, 2007 at 7:44 PM #51894DrewParticipantThe term, “delusions of self grandeur” comes to mind when I read that post.
May 4, 2007 at 10:17 PM #51900zkParticipantI agree with PD the most. Powayseller is a bright person whose mind has been “hijacked.” It’s too bad, really. Check out the symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder:
1.has a grandiose sense of self-importance
2.is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
3.believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by other special people
4.requires excessive admiration
5.strong sense of entitlement
6takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
7.lacks empathy
8.is often envious or believes others are envious of him or her
9.arrogant affect.May 5, 2007 at 8:26 AM #51903privatebankerParticipantPowayseller is an absolute joke. I remember how naive she was when this site first came out. All of a sudden, she is a real estate expert (self-proclaimed).
History of PowaySeller:
– Starts out asking naive questions about RE/Economy
– Is on the site from morning till night with nothing better to do. I recall seeing her posts time stamped at 2 am on a number of occasions.
– From time to time, she would post a comment about her local observations
– As her confidence grew, she would copy and paste news stories from other sites
– With a growing ego, she begins questioning other people’s comments
– Ego still growing, she starts commenting on her own RE & economic views and simultaneously becomes an expert in all investments. Openly giving amateur investment advice to people she does not know.
– Regularly attacks other people’s posts and gets attacked in return
– Proclaims that she will never post on site again
– Some people say hey miss her comments (what were they thinking)
– She comes back (what a shock!) and begins being a typical idiot posting bird brain comments
– She successfully pisses off Rich et al
– Begins her own website providing the world with her “expert” views on the economy, investments and real estate.Like I said, she is an absolute joke.
