If it doesn’t effect you, why did you post? π
School districts move principals around all the time. Sycamore Ridge has a slightly lower API than Sage Canyon (963 vs. 982 – but that actually is less of a difference than you’d expect given the difference in average housing price). So, there really is no difference in school achievement when it comes down to it, and I’m willing to bet that Bob Fillner could be the principal of Sage Canyon and it wouldn’t affect their test scores.
Much to do about nothing, isn’t it? Or do soccer moms need something to worry about?
August 13, 2013 at 9:33 PM #764406bearishgurlParticipantflu, I don’t personally know how SDUSD or DMUSD handle their transferring administrators and teachers, but CVESD and SDUSD move their principals from their post every 2-3 years … like clockwork. This is “common practice” in Districts all over the state!
Don’t take it personally. Principals need to experience running as many schools as possible in the District in the course of their career. Principals and teachers work for a DISTRICT and are at their behest (with union-negotiated ability to “pick assignments” based upon level of seniority). School office and lay employees work for the DISTRICT but typically stay at at the school where they began employment for the District as they are lesser-paid and typically live in the attendance area of their “home school.” However, these employees have the right to put in for a transfer to another school in the District if they wish to and there is an opening for them.
No parent can fix this. They need to suck it up and live with it. In your case, your kid has a l-o-o-ong way to go yet in the public school system.
August 13, 2013 at 9:41 PM #764408NotCrankyParticipantThe principal at one of my kid’s schools got transferred. He is amazing too. I don’t think it ever occurred to parents out here to try to stop it. Must be that sense of entitlement thing.

Yes, the Districts have the final say on EVERYTHING. CA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS run the show, folks! Their rights to do this are long-steeped in state law.
As a parent, if you don’t like their decisions, you can always pay for private school for your kid(s). It’s a free country.
August 13, 2013 at 10:28 PM #764416bearishgurlParticipantSorry, I meant to say earlier that CVESD and SUHSD move their principals from their post every 2-3 years.
These are the two public school districts in Chula Vista.

I sort of figured that out, and wasn’t going to call out a typo. π Pretty sure that is SOP in SDUSD as well, too.
Interestingly enough, Sage Canyon has been opened 3 years, which seems to fit right in with your 2-3 year measure. Every single school that we’ve followed for one reason or other switches principals about every 3 years. Part of the game.

Actually, it’s been open a lot longer than that. My daughter went there from K-6. Dr. La Rose was the principal the entire time she was there. I’d hardly call 7 years “musical chairs.”

August 15, 2013 at 6:49 AM #764444RhettParticipantNot sure why you are having a tantrum and deleting your thread, flu. I make a little wisecrack with a smiley, and that is why Piggington sucks?
If you were trying to make some sort of salient point, then why did you not want to share it with us? Del Mar Union’s SuperintendentGate was far more controversial than this, and even that got swept under the rug.
Thanks for correcting me, zk – I had Sage Canyon confused with Oceanaire in terms of age.

Come on flu…piggington has been getting better lately.
We need your stock advice, and with the economic collapse event horizon approaching piggington needs you more than ever!
