There are very few pot shops these days. The city in its infinite wisdom used zoning laws to shut them down. So, what happens now is you call the number in an add and they come to your house. (How convenient!) Someone shows up with a suitcase full of pot and edibles and you pick what you want and make a “donation”.
October 30, 2015 at 1:29 PM #790848PCinSDGuestThere used to be one in Kearny Mesa not far from my office. But the city cracked down on most of them a few years ago. It was on the news showing it being raided.
This past week I’ve been drafting docs for an investor to own part of a retail recreational marijuana shop in Washington. I’m curious how much profit these stores make.
October 30, 2015 at 1:41 PM #790849moneymakerParticipantThey make huge! profits from what I’ve heard. Just read in the paper this morning that the council will allow 4 pot stores per district with one just approved to open in Sorrento Valley near the coaster station. 12 approved so far.

I think most people would not even know what they are as they tend to be pretty non descriptive on the outside. I’ve been to a few of them, but not as a customer

Sorry, I’m not that experienced. (Cue Jimi Hendrix, “Are you experienced”) I don’t know if they give receipts. I would think so. I think the reason they ask for a donation is that legally, (by federal law) they can’t sell pot. But they can give it to you, and then you give them a donation. It’s all a bit of silliness if you ask me.

Reader is okay, but it’s definitely more Corporate than CityBeat.
November 2, 2015 at 12:29 PM #790940DoofratParticipantDo you need a prescription or anything to make a purchase? I’m checking for a friend that doesn’t have a PC Computer connected to the Interwebs.
November 2, 2015 at 1:21 PM #790943spdrunParticipantI thought you need a “medical MJ card” in CA.

Yes, you must go to one of the doctors that writes you a prescription. I believe after you get the RX, you need to go to the county and get the card that lets you purchase legally. Then when you call they’ll come with the pot.

Yeah, my friend who uses those services has a card. He said the actual appointment to get the card is basically a rubber-stamp encounter. Have you ever had either depression or anxiety? Cool, you qualify. Insomnia? A bunch of other symptoms all count.
It’s $75-100 or so, because it does have to be signed by an actual M.D..
November 2, 2015 at 4:24 PM #790947ParabolicaParticipantAfter you see the doctor he signs a letter recommending MMJ for you. No need to deal with the county, just take the letter to the dispensary. The doctors’ offices will sell you a photo id card for $10, but only the letter passes muster with the cops and the dispensaries (so I’m told).
Letter and driver’s license in hand you can go to a dispensary and are good to go. If you chose a delivery service they will have you email or fax the letter and lics before they arrange to stop by.
It used to be that without some type of medical record the letter was only good for a month or two.
November 2, 2015 at 9:14 PM #790953moneymakerParticipantDoes stress count as a medical condition? I think after spending $100 a day on pot I would probably feel even more stress (about paying the mortgage) so I would probably need more pot. Hence the spiral begins!

Sorry if I was unclear, the appointment to get your card is about $100, and I believe it’s good for a year.
For all but the heaviest user, ~$25 a week is way more than enough. For the very occasional user that would be a month’s budget. So cheaper than cigarettes and close to my monthly beer budget (~$10/week).
November 3, 2015 at 9:02 AM #790966scaredyclassicParticipantIf you smoked 100.00 worth of medical grade Marijuana every day, you’d be too high to post on piggington.
