Firstly, there can never be “too many trees.” π
Portland is an awesome city, and everyone I’ve known who’s lived there loved it.
The biggest problem is the employment situation. There are very few well-paying jobs (or any jobs, for that matter) — even when times are good.

June 28, 2010 at 1:03 AM #572991CoronitaParticipantI’ve been up there a few times, and almost came close to buying a home there.
Pluses
1)Nice area, lots of nature still
Minus
1)High unemployment, not many high paying jobs, and relatively speaking, very limiting career move
2)deal with rain/snow ( i don’t mind)
3)homes are overbuilt there too.Scardey, if you’re having a tough time looking for homes here, your going to have an interesting challenge up there. Not that homes arent available. It’s going to be the opposite problem.
