I love myfitnesspal, but it’s hard to put in your own recipes and adjust the servings for foods prepared at home (haven’t tried in a month or two, maybe it’s improved). I like the fact that you can hook up mapmywalk to it – if I go for a walk before I eat anything, I have an hour or so of negative calories for the day, which is very satisfying.
January 3, 2016 at 3:58 PM #792945CoronitaParticipantDumb question. Is this really necessary? I use google fit just to figure out how much I run/walk each day approximately. But I generally don’t count calories to the T. But do you guys run a really tight workaround/diet schedule?
January 3, 2016 at 4:13 PM #792946njtosdParticipantNot a dumb question – it isn’t necessary. However, I tend to not eat enough protein and I am generally anemic, so it helps to have something keep track of grams of protein, mg of iron, etc. I find it sort of motivating, because it’s satisfying to enter something that makes my stats look good. Map My Walk is fun because it shows you the change in elevation, etc. and is a general indicator of the difficulty of the course. Both these apps tend to keep me on the right track (although the holiday season has been a disaster in terms of healthy habits . . . ).

January 4, 2016 at 8:35 PM #792981svelteParticipantthat’s what we like about the WW app. It has pre-calculated what virtually any meal from a chain restaurant will cost you, and virtually any food in a grocery store….easy to keep track.
By the way, we’re down over 50 lbs between us since Sept 1. I’m at my goal, my wife has a bit more to go. Total eatstyle change. and the food is just as delicious as before.
January 5, 2016 at 8:47 AM #792988poorgradstudentParticipantI seriously don’t have the patience to record everything I eat in an app.

If you eat healthful stuff, you don’t need to record.
January 5, 2016 at 12:43 PM #792993CoronitaParticipantJust curious. Any of you have a fitbit device? No I don’t work for them.

It’s quick. It has a scanner. That puts in all info. U can type in also generic name, like pecans, and all nutritional info pops up. It’s super fast. Eerily fast. Also most of us eat the same thing often and u just click on it, adjust portion if necessary. The time to record also makes u hesitate and,in my case ashamed to put cap in my mouth.
It’s not difficult.
Except mentally.
When and if you’re ready and need to change, keep it in mind!
January 5, 2016 at 1:01 PM #792995FlyerInHiGuestYou have to change your mind to not believe the crap you shouldn’t eat is delicious. Mind over matter.
