The owner of the bird lived in Neenach, about 30 miles from PMC, the bird was flying from near San Francisco back home. They take about 30 birds from each owner with a total of up to 3000 racers and then drop them off somewhere. Each bird has two bands, an ID band and one that gets scanned as they make it back to their coop. Then they figure out what bird actually wins the race.
