The Fire department !!

Did that lady with the styrofoam house in O’hain manage to do it again?
February 23, 2012 at 6:19 AM #738534svelteParticipantI’d have to guess the new fire station too. It looks like a great place to sip some wine. 🙂

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
Frankly, I don’t know a good solution for it. While I look at it and question the potential excessive expenditure, if the FD throws up a slump brick building in RSF, it’s just the opposite end of the spectrum.
I recognize the government is trying to do the right thing by building in a pleasant manner to match the neighborhood.
It’s like last night on the GOP debate, the cost of the border fence was bandied about at $1 Million/mile. Nearly $20,000 per foot of fence.
Something is wrong with the cost of Government building that is vastly increasing the costs.
February 23, 2012 at 7:21 AM #738540svelteParticipantHave you tried getting a government contract lately? An agreement I reached back in August that was supposed to be a slam-dunk through an existing channel, under contract and started by 1 October is *still* in the government contracting office! Answer I get every week is “this is the week it will be ready for you to sign so you can start work next week.”
Even I don’t believe that any more.
February 23, 2012 at 7:49 AM #738541sdrealtorParticipantYes it is the new Fire Station #3. I was taking a short cut thru Fairbanks and saw it as I was coming down El Apajo toward San Dieguito. It is visually stunning. Its RSF so I am sure they had to meet certain archectiral standards but DAMN that is one beautiful building. The pictures dont do it justice. Wait until you see the stone work on it. I will try to snap a picture next time I drive by. I am sure it had to be privately paid for to a large extent. No way taxpayers would pay for that. No way.

That fence would be a whole lot cheaper if they contracted with the legals on the other side to build it. Just sayin…

“Jim Ashcraft, president of the fire district’s board of directors, estimated that with all contingencies included, the total cost of the new station will be about $4.7 million.
Michel and Ashcraft said 75 percent of the money for the station will come from fees charged to developers for projects within the district, while the remaining 25 percent will come from the district’s general fund, generated primarily from property tax revenue. The building was designed to fit in with the surrounding community, said Michel, and includes cut stone on its outer façade, along with ornamentation that appears to be made of painted wood but is in fact lightweight foam.”

February 24, 2012 at 6:57 AM #738595AnonymousGuestMeh, they don’t know how think big in RSF.
Temecula City Hall cost $45 million:
The whole project was managed well and within budget. A refreshing change from most stories we read about government endeavors.

I figured it had to be financed some way other than by taxpayers but here is my question. This is far from the only recent example of this. Why do we build castles for the FD and leave the police in dumpy buildings behind strip shopping centers? We now have the magnificent Chateau Double Peak at the highest point of San Elijo Hills with stunning views to Mexico border and the San Bernardino snow capped mountains.
We also recently added Casa La Costa built in the middle of a nature preserve and perched on the possibly the best view location in Carlsbad overlooking Box Canyon with stunning lagoon, ocean and sunset views. Some how they even got a huge west facing view deck to enjoy Happy Hour Margarita’s tacked onto the design.
Now we will have Castile de Rancho Santa Fe coming online with a design reminiscient of Chateau Montelena.
If I am sitting in the dumpy old station next to La Costa Resort or one of the older stations in Encinitas or Solana Beach I’m wondering when do we get upgraded. And how about our police dept’s? Surely they are worthy of such extravagence also.
