If you don’t mind used furniture Craigslist has tons of deals. But personally there are certain things where I would never buy anything used (a bed for instance). For a couch I would probably be ok with it as long as its in great condition.

November 4, 2009 at 2:27 PM #477587briansd1GuestIf you like Jerome’s you’re hopeless… (joking here).
Ultra suede is way out of date. Don’t do two-tone.
In that price range, try Plummers. Crate and Barrel is better but more expensive.
Realtors love to stage using West Elm.
Craigslist and yard sales are good too.

November 4, 2009 at 2:28 PM #477592CBadParticipantI swear I’m not snobby but that’s a pretty low dollar amount for that much new furniture. I would think new your only chance of meeting that limit would be places like Jerome’s or Ikea. And hey, nothing wrong with those options if you are OK with the quality and like it. But I wouldn’t expect the pieces to last forever. If it were me, I’d spring for the good quality couches and go used on the occasional tables. If you get used, good quality wood occasional tables you could always refinish the pieces to match wood stains or get lucky and find a grouping for a good deal on Craigslist. Or go unfinished and do them yourself. Personally, I hate furniture shopping so I pick classic, good quality stuff that will last.
The one recommendation I would have is to get microfiber fabric on the couches, especially if you have kids.
