UT reads like a good solid military history book these days.
June 20, 2012 at 1:16 PM #746162scaredyclassicParticipantI get most of my news at piggington
June 20, 2012 at 1:23 PM #746163CoronitaParticipantWell, at one point there was the piggington weekly, but no one subscribed for some reason.
June 20, 2012 at 1:39 PM #746164spdrunParticipantNY Times. London Economist.
Oh wait… did you want local news?
June 20, 2012 at 2:40 PM #746165no_such_realityParticipantDon’t bother with the LA Times, I’m expecting them to start publishing in primarily en Espanol any time now.
June 20, 2012 at 6:20 PM #746171teacherSDParticipantSome good local news at http://www.voiceofsandiego.org
Voice of San Diego
June 20, 2012 at 7:22 PM #746172EconProfParticipantTeacherSD…yes, the on-line Voice of San Diego is pretty good, especially their in-depth coverage of certain themes, such as the ongoing battle between the teachers’ union and the school board.
As for the North County Times, it is surprisingly complete for such a small newspaper. Covers much more than North County subjects. Don’t know it’s left vs. right bias, if any, which is actually a good thing.June 20, 2012 at 7:40 PM #746173moneymakerParticipantAlthough not a daily I have always enjoyed the main stories in the Reader, and it’s free. I am embarrassed to say I subscribe to the UT for a whooping $5.76/mo. barely worth it.
June 20, 2012 at 11:31 PM #746179svelteParticipantA couple of years ago, we went all digital. No paper delivered to the house. Saves a lot of money and is much more convenient.
I find that the following online combination gives me everything I need:
– nctimes.com (north county centric news)
– 10news.com (more SD centric news)
– businessweek.com (great national articles)
– cnn.com (overall news)
– bbc.com (great international news)
– mailonline.com (international sensationalism of US news)
– businessinsider.com (Apple fanboys disguised as news)Notice there is no UT on the list…
June 21, 2012 at 7:17 AM #746184DataAgentParticipantI love filling my over-sized recycle can with daily paper copies of the LA Times and USA Today.
June 21, 2012 at 8:06 AM #746190HatfieldParticipantI love reading the WSJ… as long as I stay off the editorial page. :p But I find the WSJ to be well-written and they cover a lot of stories that nobody else does. These days, most of the major dailies all carry the same news stories off the wire service.

I agree. And actually a great combination is the WSJ which leans right, and businessweek which leans left. Both are well written.
Makes for a nice balance. Problem is, WSJ makes one pay to read it online.

[/quote]You don’t have to pay if you get to the article via Google.
