AN/FLU: Quick story about horsepower. My dad was an aerospace engineer for Ford Aerospace in Palo Alto. The building next to his was SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) and was filled with crazed gearheads. I had recently purchased a 1969 Mustang Mach I with a 351 Cleveland, but had also bought a 428 Police Interceptor block (with the four bolt main) out of a trashed Ford police cruiser.Along with a friend’s older brother, who worked at Penske, the engineers at Ford SVO built an absolute monster engine. Holley 600 double pumper on a Weiand Tunnel Ram manifold bored 30 over, this thing dyno’ed out at 430hp. I could smoke ’em through all four gears and went zero to 60 in about seven seconds. This thing would routinely stomp Porsches on the straightaway. The only car that ever smoked me off the line was a 1970 Cuda with a 426 Race Hemi running a blower. That just don’t make cars like that anymore.[/quote]
that sounds like a bad a$$ car. 430WHP is a monster, but it seems like 430WHP is the new 300WHP these days. There’s plenty of TT kit for my G making mid 400WHP now and w/ a built motor, a lot are pushing 500-600WHP. Pretty crazy.April 23, 2009 at 5:00 PM #386657an

I think they (GM) still do, you just have to pay to play…
(Sorry Eugene, this thing would demolish your Z06…But’s it’s a vette too….Mmmmmmmmmmm…..)
No fat in the ZR-1
http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrolet-corvette-zr1.html
(conveniently out of my price range) Why can’t GM sell that at 50% off?
Note to soon to be parents: buy a two seater before you have kids…Or after you have a 3 car garage…Otherwise you’re stuck with porky 4 seaters with a car seat…
Ok, I really am going to shut up now. I think i promised ricechex no more car discussions on this forum. π

ParticipantAN: Baddest ass car I saw was a ’66 Corvette running a heavily modified L71 427TP that turned out 625+ HP. This thing was stupid fast and could turn a five second 0 – 60 time. Dude used to run it out on Foothill Expressway behind Stanford University and a buddy of mine (supposedly) saw him humiliating a Ferrari BB512 on the straightaway.
As much as I love the German and Italian stuff, there is something primal about good old 1960s big block American muscle.
