I didn’t want to rant too much in my last post, but I also find it strange that there are so many vehicles that ride either ridiculously low or ridiculously high. In both cases, they make a lot of noise and drive at crazy speeds, tailgaiting and cutting people off. Police enforcement of the speed limit and rules of the road is close to non-existent.
The reason I’m considering moving back to the Bay Area is that you have less need for a car there – I would keep our 2 SUV’s but just use them a lot less. I’m getting tired of all the rude drivers in Temecula. It’s like a Mad Max movie up here. People drive like they are true road warriors in a battle. My wife and I both drive SUV’s but it’s purely defensive. I don’t want to be in a Mini and get run over by a lifted Excursion! If I move to a less hostile environment, I would downsize to small vehicles once our SUV’s wear out.

June 17, 2007 at 11:28 PM #60033hipmattParticipantwell.. thanks to all who read my gripe. I appreciate those who “got it”..
I wasn’t fully bashing Tem., cause I realize the area still has some advantages, but that day, I was just really noticing that everyone I talked to, seemed to be really shallow, and lacked real substance/intelligence.
It was like, … I would talk to some clueless trophy wife, then a group of mall rat kids, then some white trash, then some wanna be gang bangers, you get the idea. I do realize there are still some quality people here though.. anyways, then the traffic in town was horrible that day, probably due to all the graduations.. It was like an SUV/monster truck rally with no end in sight. Then on the way home I saw all the bank repo signs and I felt like blogging to you all.
To those who suggest I move, I agree, and if you read the first post I think I did mention that I do want to, and that I was taking advice on potential locations.. the thing is that both our families all live here, so that makes it really hard to leave, plus we just had a our first baby, and both sides have grandparents and great-grandparents in town.
I also remember what the city was like before.. a lot less superficial, and not afraid to be called a quiet hick town. Now, it is battle of the Jonses, and the lack of courtesy really sucks.
The city is still nice in a few ways, it is relatively safe, plus, theres Harveston Lake… (23109vc thats for you). And now there are A LOT of gyms.
mydogsarelazy .. great advice, I should be giving more to my community to make it better, I am guilty of not doing enough of this I do admit. And I know you guys here aren’t “zombies” which is why I post here and converse, because I find the intelligence and conversation stimulating here. The zombies wouldn’t get it here anyways.
bugs .. also great advice, I also need to work on “tuning out” the things I see that disturb me. I am working on this though, and I am confident that I will improve in this area. I need to worry more about my family and less about the people surrounding me, even if they are as described.
fat_lazy_union_… I fully hear you on the lifted truck thing.. especially all the lifted heavy duty trucks, even duallies… hmm… take an expensive HD truck(designed for towing and hauling – NOT off roading{see Jeep Wrangler}) that is nearly as long as a limo.. and throw a bunch more money into it.. reduce the towing capacity, decrease fuel economy even further, make it harder to load things into the bed, increase cost of tires, and increase tire and brake, wear, raise the center of gravity(unsafe), have speedometer read incorrectly, just to “look better” or to compensate for small genitalia? It makes no sense at all, yet they are every where in the IE. In essence, you are paying more money for a truck that can tow more, and then paying even more money to reduce its towing capacity. I’ve actually seen lifted duallies that can no longer tow a 5th wheel trailer due to excessive hight.
BTW it still won’t off-road as good as a stock 4runner, xterra, or Wrangler, and theres a lot more to dent.
temeculaguy.. The trophy wifes I’m talking about are gold digging, I’ll cheat on you when I get a chance, I have absolutely no brain, but if you buy me a BMW, I’ll get over the big fight we just had.. type of wife. You can enjoy them all you want, but I prefer a smarter more down to earth woman, who can still look good too. And to say that all the other “less superficial” places are full of obese and toothless people is a bit of a low blow. There are other nice cities in the US that are cheaper and have intelligent/healty/attractive people.
BTW, some of Hawaii IS much cheaper than socal, or even SD.

Obesity has a similar distribution from Kaiser. California has similar statistics to the Northeast/Mid Atlantic.

Hehe, funny stuff. It amazes me looking back that my family would sometimes spend 30-60 minutes waiting for a table at The Olive Garden. Seriously, the bloody Olive Garden… cuz really, the salad and breadsticks are soooooo good they’re worth the wait.(Ok, admittedly it’s challenging to cook for a group of 6-8 people, and we usually only ate there with grandma/grandpa/cousins, but still, in hindsight it amazes me. My mom really didn’t like to cook.)

June 18, 2007 at 4:18 PM #60083BugsParticipantIt’s all a compromise. The trick is in finding the compromise that you can live with. A lot of people who live in the outlying sanitized suburban areas have nothing but contempt for the “typical” people who live in some of the neighborhoods being mentioned here.
Much more of America is now like Escondido, El Cajon and Temecula than SF or the western areas of SD County.
