OK. That’s why I haven’t ever tried Ono. With descriptions like “hip”, “trendy”, and “white people making sushi” it sounds like exactly what I would avoid at all cost. I think I’ll pass on that place, I’m very picky about sushi and hate being disappointed (although it makes Ota taste even better the next time I return as I always do).

December 18, 2007 at 9:06 PM #120247Rich ToscanoKeymasterI used to live a block from Ono and went there all the time. It actually is extremely good, although I’m not a big fan of the “loud music to conceal the fact that you are totally inane” scenesterism. However, this can be mitigated by going early, before 7:30-8, which is kind of necessary anyway as it gets quite crowded.
Anyway, Mrs. Pigg and I have agreed that while the actual fish at Ota is probably slightly better, the rolls at Ono are unparalleled. Ono’s Triple Fantasy Roll is my favorite sushi concoction of all time, hands down.
OK, it’s 9PM and I haven’t eaten dinner yet, and now I really want a triple fantasy roll. Damn you for making me post this!

December 19, 2007 at 12:00 AM #120334nostradamusParticipantHaha right on. With that glowing recommendation I will try it! I usually only eat nigiri and sashimi so trying maki (rolls) elsewhere shouldn’t be a violation. How’s the sake?
You’ve gotta check out this video which satirizes many misconceptions about sushi. The “info” is just totally wrong…
