Sushi Ota on Mission Bay Drive across from Rubio’s in a dumpy little strip mall is the best! It is 100% authentic. You can easily get in with a reservation. In fact, we are going on 12/19 to celebrate my birthday. You don’t have to be Japanese as noted below. Just call and make a reservation. Both I feel are extremely good and you will not be disappointed with either choice, but there was this one roll at Ota that really stuck out – it was a double fatty tuna type roll that just totally blew me away.
