Continue to consider it, flu. Smart move putting real estate first, but, since you can afford both, get what you want. Life is short–enjoy it.

Ask yourself which is more important – years of driving enjoyment now, or a few extra bucks in retirement when you probably won’t really need it and may not be able to enjoy it. If I could get away with buying that Miata now as a second car, I would. As it is, a “toy” car is many years away for me. Next up in a couple years – new daily driver in the form of the next gen STI on their new global platform. Need to be able to haul little people. It’s fun listening to them giggle in the twisties.

Easy, semester abroad. My undergrad offered many. Amsterdam and Bangkok were popular. Paris andd Berlin too. Then Costa Rica.
And if those didn’t float your boat, an option for any city and free form community member experience self directed study…
February 17, 2017 at 9:06 AM #805651CoronitaParticipantOK. I emailed the sales guy back and asked for a $500 off instead of $1000, meeting in the middle.
If it doesn’t pan out, I go on vacation next week and if it’s sold during prez week so be it.
I’ll let fate decide. Maybe leaving an extra $27k in the market is good or bad…..We will see
Meanwhile, got a marketing email…
Such a nice car….A little out of my price range, by a factor of 10…lol.

You just caved. Should have let him think about it until Monday. He would’ve called.

I’m not going to deal with this next week because I’m on vacation, so the way I look at it is, close by tomorrow or not at all. There’s a high chance these will be gone over the long weekend, and if they aren’t I’ll disappear and reappear, because it means these cars aren’t moving. I think the sales guy is going to try to use the long weekend to move these cars out. And if he can’t, then he’ll call me back.
They have 12 on the lot, I doubt they will be able to sell all 12. The only problem is there is only 1 that is “stripped”. The other ones have a $3400 bremo/BBS wheel package that I don’t want since I plan on running my own wheels/tires/brakes. But if it comes down to that, I’ll ask for a greater discount off of that. Just won’t be able to get the color I originally wanted. So I would rather spend a little more on the stripped car, and save the rest toward my own aftermarket upgrades, versus getting all this from the factory.

Truthfully, I’m the kinda of guy that would be as happy driving a $100k car on one day and a $5k crapmobile the other day. The closest analogy I can think of is one of my friends who shops at Tiffany’s one day, and Walmart the other. Oh well, we have our own little quirks.
The problem is that $100k is really pushing the envelope these days. You can load up an M3/M4 and that would be $100k. It doesn’t feel like it’s a $100k car.
You use to be able to get a 911s below $100k just a few years ago. Now a 911s starts around $105k…. Car prices have gotten a little out of hand.I really like the 911s when I drove it and almost pulled the trigger on that… Darn short sales property that came on the market…Though, that was a good decision.
You know what car I really like? My colleague’s McLaren….[/quote]
this is my set up. Regular car for weekdays and an exotic for weekends. Pretty thrilling when sliding your behinds onto the CF/alcantara seat Saturday mornings.
$100K gets you an used F430 or Gallardo. In the long term, this will likely cost you a little less than an M3/4 (as long as you only drive on weekends).
February 17, 2017 at 2:32 PM #805663CoronitaParticipantIt is done… I go tomorrow to sign papers….Unless someone from now until then can beat me to buying that car (since it’s not official until the paper is signed)……
I need to be saved from being irresponsible….Some have tried but failed miserably…
Rich, between now and tomorrow, please go there and make a better off and steal this deal from me. I know you really want an ND. I mean, you probably have an NB, and the ND has more horsepower and less weight than the NB. Plus, it gets 34mpg on the freeway.
Besides, since this car has 0% US parts content, there’s a chance with any sort protective trade tariff, the cost of this car will go up significantly in a few years. π
February 17, 2017 at 2:35 PM #805664La Jolla RenterParticipantMy chronic lead foot prevents me from the sports car temptation. Back when I had a fast car I would hit 100+ at least 3 to 4 times a week.
So I drive a $50k truck. About 7k miles per year.
The best part about driving a big truck is that you don’t have to tolerate drivers that speed up when you politely and timely turn on your blinker to change lanes. You just keep going.

Same technique I use when driving the my K30. I also tend to ride the bots-dots on the right when someone decides to drop into my blind spot on the right and just sit there.
The only downside is that it tends to be thirsty.

February 18, 2017 at 4:49 PM #805684CoronitaParticipant……So….
I stepped into the dealership ready to sign…Then saw the Red Miata RF on the floor at full MSRP….And then spend the next 1.5 hours thinking “if I see one of these on the road, I’,m not going to be happy with my decision…” But then my cheap-ass self says “well there’s a $8000 price difference between it and the one you are about to buy….” And then back and forth, back and forth, back and forth….Called sdrealtor for advice….Then back and forth, back and forth.. back and forth…..
1.5 hours later… I politely told the salesman, I’m really really sorry. If I hadn’t seen the RF on the floor, I was all pumped to get the normal Miata…. He understood and said, unfortunately right now there’s no discount off of the Miata RF…
So I guess I’m gonna wait for another year, for the 2017 end of clearance. I hope the Miata RF doesn’t sell well, for selfish reasons. It’s a pretty expensive $30k car, which opens the doors to a lot of other cars imho.
