My pop had one installed. It leaked. That’s the extent of my experience with them.

They are really nice because otherwise her living room would be a dark hole. I like them. There at least 6 solatubes in her house and I don’t think they have ever leaked. Like UcGal said they are bright, very bright. A dimmer sounds like a good idea to me, especially in a bedroom.

get light kits, shades and don’t put them in a bedroom, a small light glow will wake you up.
bathrooms are good
