ParticipantIs it any wonder he sought female company from someone who wasn’t a vengeful harpy?
Honestly, I’m not sure why Americans care so much about this stuff. He should show some backbone, and say “impeach me. Dare you.” Then start leaking dirty laundry on everyone else he knows in politics.
Might as well have the biggest scandal possible.

It’s fun to watch when religion is involved. It’s always interesting to see if they judge, punish or forgive as they interpret their holy book.

GuestReality is better than fiction. The story contains all elements of a scandalous novel on part with Mme Bovary.
The bible teaches humility but Robert Bentley legally added Dr. to his name to win elections. He was a devout deacon.
Governor and his wife were married for 50 years and had 4 children they named after characters in the bible. Yet the wife ruined her husband by releasing the sex tapes. I’m assuming she had him recorded. Never mind that the bible teaches forgiveness.
I’m looking forward to the made for TV movie.

ParticipantI was wondering why the woman wouldn’t be charged for taking illegal kickbacks for favors. I guess it wasn’t government money she was paid for playing with Bently. I think if some of the money or perks can be tied to tax payers she should go up on charges. No doubt she knew what she was doing and it wasn’t “love”.
How about elder abuse for her? I mean lets get liberal about , Brian.

The man “ruined” himself- the wife just exposed him.

ParticipantWife probably hadn’t slept with him for years, yet expected him to stay “faithful”. Yeah. Right. Every normal human being has personal needs. The sooner we recognize this as a society, the better off we will be.
He was acting like a normal human with gonads. Nothing evil, bad, or unusual about it.

Whether it’s evil, bad, or unusual is beside the point. It’s a sin according to his professed religion.

ParticipantThen his real sin was following the religion, not what he did. If G-d didn’t intend us to enjoy sex, he’d have not designed us to enjoy it (vs needing it to survive, like a ferret or a Vulcan).

We need religion to keep us in check to prevent us from committing sins.
I expect religious and socially conservative people to be more upstanding and sin less, a lot less than the non-religious. Maybe I’m mistaken and religion is actually a way to mask the sins.Even with social etiquette and norms. People who care about traditional values should adhere to long standing traditions. Seems like everything is upside down. I think the second coming of Christ is upon us to rectify all this.

ParticipantIt sounds like the sex scandal is taking down someone who is a little sleazy in other ways.
Who spends $1,800 on a burner cell phone? Hasn’t he watched The Wire?

No, we don’t.

I don’t think you do expect that, Brian. You’re in your 40’s. You watch people. You’ve been watching them a long time. You know that religious and socially conservative people are not more upstanding and they don’t sin less.

A sin to follow a religion. Hmm.That seems impossible, given that the definition of sin is, more or less, “not following [the religion in question].”
His “sin,” in my opinion, was pretending that following his professed religion meant that he was virtuous. Just because chump voters buy that doesn’t mean it’s ok.
