A 128GB device can store a hell of a lot of offline map data.

Look, go download the latest app, try it out for yourself. You won’t understand until you actually “do”.. Don’t fall in to the trap of what others, which is argue for the sake of arguing imho.

I bought a car through carsdirect.com few years ago. I’m looking at Pilot right now and carsdirect.com has better price than carwoo.com or truecar.com.

What’s the difference in the price difference? I use to use trucar all the time. But scardey’s got me looking at carwoo.

Have you tried NavFree, that allows you to d/l entire maps for offline use, by state? Apps that act like an in-car GPS exist right now.

I am looking at Honda Pilot 4WD EX-L
Truecar.com: $34,246 (target price)
Carwoo.com: $34,823 – $35,667
Carsdirect.com: $33,865The only issue that I had with using carsdirect.com was that I had to go up to Riverside to pick up the car. Everything else was super easy, drove to a dealership in Riverside, inspected the car, gave them the cashier’s check, drove away. That was in 2006, I was just wondering if something has changed since then since you did not mention them.
August 6, 2012 at 7:26 PM #749586scaredyclassicParticipantcarwoo’s initial price was not lowest. but after pitting dealers against one another with internet quotes, carwoo referred dealer ended up in the cheapest place. probably depends only on the dealer.

You need to have practical experience using all the types of navigation system to understand why they exist….
I’ve had good and bad experiences with both Android and dedicated nav devices. I try to have a real map handy.
When driving a lonely highway through a remote forested area in northern California with no cell signal, the Magellan couldn’t get a GPS signal and stopped functioning, while the Droid X continued to operate (its nav had been activated back when there was a cell signal). I can understand the Droid working, but I don’t get how the Magellan would fail in the same circumstances – unless the Droid lost the GPS signal too but didn’t care and didn’t bother to tell me.
In the city, the Magellan once in a while routes me to turn where no street has ever existed. Data issue, I guess.
On the way to Palm Springs recently, the Droid never found a satellite in an hour of searching. Tried restarting, uninstalling map updates, etc. We did NOT have a real map (too reliant on tech!) and so had to find the address using only cell phone tower locations and wild guesses, which only added 15 minutes to the drive, but still, that was 15 minutes of drinking time.
Every Android update to my Droid X degrades its performance or otherwise screws things up.

These are awesome. I use one when I’m flying along with my android tablet.
August 7, 2012 at 2:55 PM #749647mike92104Participant

… I’ve made more than a few ski trips in a Miata. Hardtop, snow tires, ski rack slung off the trunk, and I was actually PASSING idiots in SUVs.
Lol, spdrun … back in the day, I made a few ski trips in a 280Z with the same kind of roof rack and it handled VERY well in the snow with just snow tires! However, we never had to put chains on.
When the chain law is in effect, I have to put on my cables. This has happened to me many times in the sierras. One time, I had to put them on and take them off 3x before I got all the way thru the sierras (US 50). This is time consuming and not that easy to do properly in a storm and/or in the dark on a car that doesn’t have very much clearance between the tires and wheel wells.
I’m tired of this routine and want to get away from this requirement.
Sounds like you need a Subaru. My girlfriend and I got caught in a snow storm driving thru northern Arizona/NM. People in front and behind us were spinning off the road all over the place. My little Subaru never lost traction.
August 8, 2012 at 4:54 AM #749697scaredyclassicParticipantwell, I have a chance to give back the car and start over. the dealer wants to change the contract to .9 percent financing. Maybe this is a sign that I am not meant to buy this car.
August 8, 2012 at 5:37 AM #749699CoronitaParticipantSquat, is there s prepayment penalty on the loan? If not, one thing you could do. Is just pay the car off.
August 8, 2012 at 5:42 AM #749700scaredyclassicParticipantit’s .9 percent interest, there’s no compelling reason to pay it off.
if the seller exercises its right to cancel the contract we just start over. they get the car back, we cancel the credit app and we are in the smae position we started in.
I am wondering if this is a sign from the Creator of the Universe to just ride my bike to work?

What happened?
Maybe this is a compelling reason for you to get a BMW? Just kidding….
Anyway, did the dealer fvck up or something. What if you put on a lot of miles? They gonna want it back???Maybe you need to leave your windows open and let the cat pee in this car too 🙂
