The President clearly has the right to nominate a replacement. It’s more ambiguous when the Senate needs to do their part, and they can always reject the nomination as the Democratic controlled Senate did to Robert Bork.

Both sides are going to try to leverage the situation politically where they can, but if the arguments get too bogged down by Constitutional law the average voter will tune out and fall asleep. Thus far the American people haven’t seemed especially angry when either party uses the filibuster to stall anything from happening.

If euthanasia were legal, dying in sleep would be a piece of cake.

It’s interesting that scalia, in his dissent to the line item veto case, said that the president has wide discretion to not spend money appropriated by Congress.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but dying in my sleep freaks me out. For some strange reason, I’d want to know I was about to die, not going to bed on some random night and not realizing I wasn’t going to exist after that. Maybe it’s just me.

He said that when the Justice didn’t show up for breakfast or lunch the day after he arrived, he knocked on the door and got no answer. Then he let himself in and found his body on the bed. The covers weren’t even turned back (indicating he may have collapsed as soon as he left dinner the night before, saying it had been a long day and he was “fatigued.”) The county judge in TX stated that the family didn’t want an autopsy and she would sign his death certificate as “natural causes, heart attack” or something like that. The newscaster stated that his doctor in DC has been contacted, who stated that the Justice had seen him twice in the week before and that he told him that he was in “poor health.”

Maybe the quail hunting trip was on the Justice’s “bucket list.”

The place he was staying looked and sounded on the video like a fantastic resort.

I’ll try to find the link again for the video. It was interesting.

I will not dye my hair. I will not.

I dye my hair, work out at the gym and am always told by everyone except my son that I look younger than I am. I remember seeing Scalia interviewed for a TV special a while back and I was impressed by the guy. Should I have flown my flag at half mast today? Didn’t think about it until now.
