QUESTION.. so. our place is perfect for weddings. it has everything one would need. perfect setting, large property, great views, etc.
unfortunately, apparently there are rules that prohibit advertising and operating a wedding establihsment venue less than 5 acres. we are at less than 5 acres, although if we bought the empty lot next to us, we might make it.
i ran into a guy who is actually doing weddings in a similar situation with this plan:
he rents the house out to the family for the weekend. the contract provides that the renter can have a party there. then they have the wedding.
he helps coordinate stuff like tables.
he says it works, legally, been doing it a long time. He charges a hefty weekend fee, about 6k, to account for wear and tear from the greater limit on “occupancy” but fromt he point of view of the bride and groom, it’s less than half the price of doing it at a winery. a steal. our place would honestly be nicer than most wineries.
so…assuming the renter complies with noise requirements, does this sound like it might run afoul of any rules? he says he is booked almost every weekend.
im assuming the neighbors will be irritated…
if this works, i could live in laguna, come back and forth to book weddings and basically drink at The Saloon on south coast highway most days…which is a great bar…
Rent it out as a venue for the reception? The wedding itself would be in the {church,synagogue,Sumerian temple,Buddhist shrine} of choice. Therefore, it’s not a wedding venue.

I don’t know – it seems to me that the problems I’ve seen haven’t been with the bride and groom (or whomever you would be dealing with beforehand) but with the cousins and drunkles and yay-hoos that must be invited (because they’re family!) then proceed to drink themselves into oblivion.
And thinking about it more, the problems I’ve seen haven’t really been at indoor receptions but outdoor receptions. Maybe the problem relatives bring their own ice chests? I don’t know the reason.
We saw it coming during one that turned into a mele so we cut out early and went to a nightclub for the rest of the evening. The next day the bride and groom told us we had made the right decision – things got ugly. 🙂
Maybe you can build a guest house, or separate off a wing off of the main house and rent it out on Airbnb/vrbo to vacationers coming to enjoy the Temecula wine country. There’s got to be a market for that. Snow birds from the Midwest?
