OT: Reliable installer of bullet resistant auto glass

Not that there’s anything wrong with getting bullet-resistant glass, it will better prepare you for the coming zombie apocalypse – but the chances of being the victim of a drive-by shooting on the road are vanishingly small. I’m also guessing that a good percentage of the ones that do occur are not one-sided – that is, the victim provoked the nutjob via a middle finger or something, even if they never admit to it. If you resist the urge to flip off the guy who almost rammed you, and you don’t drive directly through the worst areas, you’ll likely never have a problem. I’ve actually been shot at when driving through San Marcos, on Mission Avenue a mile or so east of Palomar (a relatively poor area), but I knew it was a fluke and haven’t had a fear of driving in the same place since.

Your money is probably better spent on an advanced driving course and/or a safer car (first protect yourself against the stuff that is FAR more likely to kill you).

In another life I was a licensed glazing contractor and was sometimes asked by store owners about bulletproofing their exterior windows. I investigated and it was never feasible and more importantly never foolproof either. Maybe the materials are better nowadays, but if you proceed you can get a false sense of security and feel safer than you are. I suspect calibre and # of impacts affects outcome too–notice the weasel words used in the ads touting the products here.

Wow afx114 cool video. Hate to be a nay sayer but it would just be too easy to half load the ammo or something like that. So doesn’t prove shit, but still impressive because it sure looked real. Can’t imagine those windows are cheap either. First thing I thought of when I read the post was someone wants to go to TJ. Maybe the police should have those windows as I always see them duck behind their doors when weapons are drawn.

I was driving back from the redwoods yesterday and a fantastic 4-day weekend incl an incredible drive thru CA SR-128 and a ride on the Skunk Train (total 1469 mi).

Also toured more wineries along the Russian River and the “17 Mile Drive” in Monterey County and below, seeing hundreds of seals sunbathing on their backs (some with babies) :=)

Beautiful weather throughout and sailed through LA and Orange Counties at rush hour in the AOV lanes with a CALTRANS marquee reading “Wanted: White Chev Malibu CA Lic ******. If you see, call 911” every 15 miles or so.

Came home last night to find out the suspect driving the “wanted” vehicle shot into another vehicle on the fwy just one mile from my home :=(
