Get a crappy looking car, people will stay far away from you.
September 18, 2011 at 9:29 PM #729382CA renterParticipantWow, flu. Bullet-proof glass? What happened that made you think that’s necessary?
I grew up in L.A., and while it’s not “Nirvana,” it’s not that bad in most places, is it? It’s been a while since I lived there, but it hasn’t gotten *that* bad, has it?
September 18, 2011 at 10:57 PM #729386paramountParticipantI’ve looked into this before – not so much for bullets, but to protect the passenger compartment from foreign object intrusion.
The best reasonable approach I could come up with is mylar tear off’s. I think a few layers of the tear off’s might stop some bullets.
Also, I came across this as well:

The best way is to have an AK mounted with a turret on the roof of the car. The wife can drive while our friend Flu is in control of the turret.
Anyone know where to mount a turret, please let him know too.

I grew up in parts of L.A. and anything that wasn’t on the “Hill” was considered ghetto. But in all seriousness we had Compton/Lynnwood and parts of areas right outside of USC that I don’t think you would want you to be traveling at night in the wee hours… And L.A. does see to have the most random freeway drivebys, doesn’t it?

Thanks for the link…
FWIW: This came up a few times.
Not sure how effective it is. It is effective for protecting the glass shattering inward more so than normal tint film.http://www.carforum.net/car-security/75-bullet-proof-glass-k-window-armor.html

“The force of the impact put a tear in my door and yet the window remained in tact.”

I hope you or someone you love never get shot at. Because if you did, your smirk would quickly come off your face.

Oh, yes. I had to drive my sister to County USC (hospital) one night. It’s pretty eye-opening. Another time, my blonde friend and I were driving in the middle of the day. Pulled up to a stop sign, and the moment she stopped, I looked in the side-view mirror and saw a bunch of people approaching the car. I told her to step on it, and we didn’t stop at a red light or stop sign until we were well out of that part of L.A.
Okay, if you’re frequenting those areas, I can definitely see getting bullet-proof glass. We were from the SFV, and while it does have its seedy parts, the areas where we grew up were relatively safe.
Best of luck to you, flu!

Uh-oh. Sorry if you were offended by this post, flu. I’m pretty sure KIBU wasn’t trying to upset you, but was trying to cheer you up with a funny comment…which is why I posted a smiley in response to his/her post.
September 18, 2011 at 11:49 PM #729400KIBUParticipantIt was all a joke. No meaning to make fun of you, just tried to make something funny out of it and thought you would laugh too……
September 19, 2011 at 10:06 AM #729412afx114Participantflu, you might want to hit up these guys.
