Guest
My 9 year old son asks for an i-phone at least once a week. I answer with one word: No.
Did you get him an iPod Touch? I know many parents who won’t get iPhones for their kids but got them iPod touches which are really the same thing, without the phone features. The kids then complain about having to carry two devices.
Edit:
Instead of buying an iPod Touch, get an iPhone on Craigslist for the same price and use T-Mobile without a data plan, if you’re averse to the monthly data charges.I believe that only T-Mobile allows the use of a smart phone without a data plan. WiFi at home and in school will do. Texting and voice will still work the same.

Did you get him an iPod Touch?
Nope. I’ve offered him opportunities to earn money for one, though. I’m fine with being told I’m a ‘mean Mom’. πAugust 23, 2010 at 1:35 PM #595065UCGal

Participant
I think AT&T is the cheapest on data plan (with 200MB limitation). Just wondering if 200MB is enough for occassional uses?
I am a relatively heavy data user, and I travel out of town one week a month where my usage goes up significantly. From Mar-Aug 2010 I’ve averaged around 160MB/month (high 204MB/low 118MB). This is from heavy Google Maps, email, Safari, Facebooking, etc. I’m guessing that 200MB is enough for the majority of users today, but as video, Facetime, etc and our mobile usage increases over time, 200MB probably won’t be enough in the next couple years. I’m still on the unlimited plan and will stay on it (since I’m grandfathered in) because of this reason.
