Look how nice we are to them and they still won’t tolerate occupations, bombings, installations of puppet governments and looting of resources.
Rus: You’re right, and what’s even more amazing is the absolute silence from the MSM on this topic. Obama is continuing the Bush policies, or, in some cases, expanding them (Afghanistan) and there is nary a peep from the chattering classes.
To give that speech in Cairo while Predators and Reapers circle vast swathes of Pakistan and Afghanistan, Gitmo remains open for business, and the US continues to torture (and don’t believe for a second we’ve stopped) is the height of hypocrisy.
I remain amazed by the capacity of people to believe this man, and in spite of the glaring evidence. “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”.
The democrat/republican system must have morphed into some kind of good cop/bad cop kind of vehicle for foriegn policy propaganda and the MSM facilitates it. It doesn’t make sense otherwise.
It would be so easy to pull the silk sheets, replete with holes, off of this administration.June 7, 2009 at 1:46 PM #412120NotCrankyParticipant

That’s right, the whole appease the Muslims thing is propaganda. You felt the former and I the latter, but the one area we did not disagree on was that we are on our present course because of the “resource wars” that are driving the world economy.
I agree with partypup and arraya regarding the “Weltpolitik/Realpolitik” pragmatism combined with the imperial necessity of acquiring the requisite resources, especially oil, that keep the big machine running. Obama is no different than Bush in that he is driven by reality and reality requires our various military commitments around the world to keep those resources flowing into the US. It was interesting, however, to see how quickly Kim Jong-il shredded Obama’s attempt at “soft power” (appeasement) and that Obama wasted no time in hardening his stance on North Korea.
Welcome to the NFL, Mr. President.
