These are very scary times…

I watched the video – it was posted back in 2008 before the election. (you say 2009 above).
I don’t see a comparison to Hitler youth or Nazis. The words to the song are only offensive if you think Obama is the anti-Christ. The words are about hope. (Be afraid!)
How is this different than children’s choirs in church or glee clubs? Because the song had a political basis? Would you have felt the same way if they’d been singing “This Land is Your Land”? That was extremely politcal at the time.
I guess I don’t get the reaction of creepiness and fear.[/quote]
UCGal,
I appreciate your thoughts, and here are mine:
First: “This Land is My Land” is a song that praises this country and its natural beauty. I have no problem with that song. I don’t have a problem pledging my allegiance to my country, either. However, I do have a problem when people transfer the type of love/dedication that one shows for a love for a country to love/dedication for a man (or woman). It is never appropriate to give any leader or any member of government this level of commitment or trust.
Second: I’m sure you can see how it would be dangerous for Americans to count on any human being to “save” us, as these children clearly expect Obama to do. We do not need to be “saved” by Obama, and we do not need to be “saved” by bigger government. We need only look to ourselves to save ourselves.
Third, Hope isn’t dangerous, but peddlers of false hope are lethal. I think we have all seen by now the limits of Obama’s hope handjob. Quite a few of us on this board realized the fraud of hope early last year, but even the dimmest bulbs should be able to glean by now that what Obama promised and what he is realistically able to deliver are galaxies apart.
Fourth: Everything about this video is creepy to me, down to the well-rehearsed hand gestures and the “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” melody. Yes, it seriously disturbs me to see children singing and celebrating a 47-year old career bureaucrat (who’s sole accomplishment is to repeatedly get elected to higher office) as they would Jesus or Santa Claus.
Lastly, no one said Obama is the anti-Christ. This ain’t that kind of board. And one doesn’t have to be a believer in the anti-Christ to recognize how unsettling this video is.
