Are you sure? – if this person bought the home (i.e Closed ) in 2010 AUGUST and got the property tax for July 2010 to 2011 and wanted to pay all in one attempt to show that in 2010 income tax claim.

I did some googling… it appears that if you prepay your taxes it’s deductable in the year you paid it (not when it was due.)
It also seems like if you pay your Jan mortgage payment in December you can get that interest portion deducted in 2010. Mortgage payments are in arrears. So a Jan 1st payment is for Dec. If you pay it early the mortgage interest should show on the end of the year statement.

December 8, 2010 at 9:41 AM #638004ariffe22ParticipantIt is deductible, but be aware that paying taxes is not a deduction for Alternative Minimum Tax. If you pay next year’ (FEB/APR) payment and it puts you into AMT, you really did’nt get any benefit from paying early.
