you guys should get a room..
I wish a moderator would have deleted this thread 6 pages ago.. we need a moderator here badly
I have to agree–you guys are getting a little too “cozy” on here. Take it to the electronic version of a room and PM each other… π Especially the details re substances of choice…why don’t you invite the feds to your front door?
That said, I like Rage, Flogging Molly, most all classical (although you need some serious spare time to do the opera thing), still like Arrested Development even though they are a little passe, Offspring, etc.
You guys going to hang out by the DQ tonight and cruise for girls? (or whatever teenagers say these days).
Wow, it’s kind of dull now that Casca has moved on to torment some other blog thread… No common enemy–maybe that’s the answer for why we got into the Iraq mess–America would be bored if we were at peace with no one to rally against?
August 8, 2008 at 2:31 PM #254739gandalfParticipantBusy last couple of days. Wanted to respond to some of rus’ comments as well as add some words that put some of the casca discussions, if you can call them that, in context.
First, people who make a habit of violating social norms get beat on in every context, everywhere, in the history of the world. It’s human behavior. Animal behavior. That’s how the world works. I took some ribbing for suggesting we democratically moderate threads. That’s not censorship, BTW.
Second, the Internet isn’t anonymous. You connect from somewhere and leave footprints everywhere you go. Those who know, know better.
With casca, I believe he’s a bullet-catcher from here on the Island. Small world, small town in fact. In terms of his profile, there is little to suggest any proclivity to engage in civil discussion on matters of politics. He is Marine Corps, tip of the spear. They serve a function, and serve it well. Battle on. (Or change the subject.)

August 8, 2008 at 2:46 PM #254749gandalfParticipantI agree about moderating the blog. Add a link to democratically flag topics and posts as OTL.
Moderating is not censorship. It minimizes trolling and improves signal-to-noise.

August 8, 2008 at 2:52 PM #254754Allan from FallbrookParticipantShadowfax: Fine, MOM! I would respond with some additional musical choices, but I don’t want to get any further in trouble.
Gandalf: We missed you, Bubba. It has gotten alarmingly quiet around here, to the extent that Rus and I are keeping busy by comparing notes on music, social norms and pharmacological products (yes, Shadowfax, we’re stopping now).
Re: Casca: I don’t have any issues with what he said. I do have issues with both the approach and the tone. You can disagree quite strongly with someone, but still maintain respect and decorum. If one feels that they are so above everyone else in the discussion that they cannot handle themselves appropriately, then they should leave. This “dear fellow” and “dear boy” nonsense coming from anyone is condescending and rude, and it is an obvious device meant to establish distance and superiority. The same goes for the constant employment of $6 words. Unless this guy is the reincarnation of Bill Buckley, stow it. I have this mental vision of some pontificatory pinhead in a tweed jacket with elbow patches stoking a pipe while he lectures the proles. Sorry, Bub, that s**t don’t fly. I’m well past the point of having to deal with a clown like that, and as a peer no less. Go polish your hakenkreutz (and I’m sure that Casca knows full well what that is).
