November 10, 2015 at 2:21 PM #791148spdrunParticipantShe hasn’t applied for a public school yet, since she needs to get her certification first. But she says that she’s heard application is no picnic either in public schools.
November 10, 2015 at 3:59 PM #791150flyerParticipantA few extended family members who are in education at the college level–in teaching and admin–have mentioned they would have never considered getting involved at any lower level of education because of the constant “babysitting,” to use their words, of students and parents.
Personally, we had only one issue with a teacher over the years with our three grown children. Most of them them were fantastic people with great work ethics, and our kids had great experiences with just about all of them. My daughter, who is now an MD, credits her interest in science to one of her early teachers.
November 11, 2015 at 10:10 AM #791181fredo4ParticipantI work at my kids’ private school. It’s ridiculous, not because of any set rules, we just know there will be parent complaints if the kids use any of the play equipment in any sort of creative or different way.
This includes swinging the “wrong way” on the swing, spinning around or anything else besides swinging sedately back and forth in the same direction as everyone else. It also includes running.
I read somewhere that kids are so over protected when they’re young that they have no idea how to safely take care of themselves once they’re in college. Some pf my phone 14 year old’s friends have never even crossed a busy street by themselves.

This is what we fought for?
November 11, 2015 at 10:52 AM #791183poorgradstudentParticipantWhen I was a kid we couldn’t play full court basketball because there was only one court and two hoops. So there would be one formal game playing half court on one hoop and the other hoop would be for kids just messing around.
Even at UCSD the informal rule is no full court unless the court is pretty dead.

Does your Daughter still go to OA? I asked Mr. Stanley, the grounds staff and my Daughters 4th grade teacher and no one has heard of these new rules.

No they never went to ocean air. I live in the ghettos of Carmel Valley, so she doesn’t go to ocean air.
