OT: New Mini Cooper S reliability – any experiences?

This is way off topic but there are a lot of smart people on this board and a there seem to be a number of people into cars. Ever since the new Mini Cooper S came out in 2007, I’ve been thinking of buying one. I’ve actualy test driven four of them over the years and I really love the way they handle plus the small size helps for going downtown, Hillcrest, etc where there is tight parking. This would be a second car for me since I have an older Lexus LS that I would not part with (and I have a feeling is a lot more reliable than a brand new Mini).

When I search the internet, there are a lot of scary stories about serious problems with the cars. Does anyone have a 2007+ Mini with high mileage or even anything over 50K that can comment on the longevity of the car? What have your experiences been?

Fun to drive (especially the cooper works)…But… not so good in the reliability department (according to internet surveys…Colleagues have not generally had too much problems, though it does need to be pampered like any other german car (yes I know it has British origins)…

My sister has a clubman and LOVES it. She hasn’t had any issues. She pre-ordered before the clubman was available – so she had one of the first in San Diego.

Previously she had a used bmw 5 series wagon.

I’ve driven her mini… It’s fun to drive.
