What do all septic tank pumpers have in common among themselves and also with all prior septic tank pumpers over +20 years and also in common with the all of the septic tank makers?
Tip: They are all part of a group representing about 2% of the U.S. population.

So, do you still think it needs to be cleaned every 3 years? I have heard of people going 15 years even with lousy systems. You can check by wrapping a stick in cotton cloth to at least the depth of your tank and dipping it….the sludge layer and the grease layer will show how deep they are on the cotton. I have to do that again soon but after 3 years it was not near to capacity with sludge or grease.
How big is the tank? Mine is 1,200 gallons. No filter. We don’t use the garbage disposal all scraps get composted, fed to animals or thrown in the trash.
September 30, 2013 at 6:53 AM #765955scaredyclassicParticipantwell, I don’t know. I bought a book on septic systems. I shoudl read it more carefully. we don’t put food down the sink. there’s one less person around here. i usually poop away from home. thanks. i’m going to keep a chart. however it definitely needed to be pumped cause it was overfolowing some cause the filter was cloged. dude said the filter wasn’t really necessary but i was a little hesitatnt to just toss it…
also when we bought the place, the leach field was plugged up and the septic was backing into the house, which makes me feel like regular maintenance is probably a good idea generally.
September 30, 2013 at 11:17 AM #765964NotCrankyParticipantI also read that the filters should be tossed. I have two houses with them, i put them in myself , they did not come with filters….I think they are called effluent filters….by the time it’s really going to your leach field it should not contain solids. Don’t know. If mine ever does clog i know exactly what to do about it. You can still see where all the leach lines are because it in weeds and they grow better over each line.
Do you know how/where leach field was blocked and what was done about it.
Did you have a universally low functioning leach field, or a block in a pipe somewhere? If it was just a block that got fixed, your field could be fine.

So the operative question is how much do we need to pay an American Citizen to do that job?

October 2, 2013 at 5:58 AM #766025scaredyclassicParticipantWasn’t so bad.
Smell was not unpleasant.
Take off a few big hoses from truck and the tank cap
I will do it in retirement for 17.50 an hour.
October 2, 2013 at 6:04 AM #766027no_such_realityParticipantThat’s just a honey truck run. Make any repair in the tank? π
