Participant
I was all excited until I saw that it was discontinued. I’ve heard that certain models change and then the newer one isn’t as good. Consumer Reports and another site rated KitchenAid KUDS30IV very highly and quiet. It’s discontinued. The link says I can buy it at the outlet, but no store has it. In any case, they upgraded to KUDS30IX and I keep reading bad reviews about that model.
So meadandale, you probably got a good model and no guarantee any of the other Whirlpool Gold models are as good. And thus my little dilemma.
Finding a current model of an appliance that won’t break in a few months.
I just took out my manual. I bought the KUDS02FR for $688 out the door in Dec ’06 at Sears Outlet. At that time it retailed for $1149 (+ tax). It is very quiet but I would prefer the silverware basket located in the front instead of the side. It even has a very thin top rack that holds wineglass stems steady. You don’t have to use it, however. Other than that, it has been great. The controls are hidden.

I have the black one. Apparently, they are discontinued now but must have a successor. Here are some reviews.

Participantjp, I wanted to add that I have had 3 KitchenAid dishwashers (incl most recent one, above) and they were all good. I sold them with the house. My mom had them too. At that time, they had a stainless top with control knobs and a stainless lever to lock them down, lol! I’m pretty sure her last one lasted her 30+ yrs.

Participant
I agree with the suggestion to check out the Sears outlet on Sherman St, which sells lots of different brands, but of course you have to stop in frequently because it’s hit or miss. Also, don’t forget to check Costco.com for Whirlpool.
You don’t have to stop in at all. They have the inventory online.
