Atheists as a whole are better educated and earn more money than people of faith, so that’s probably part of where the money comes from. Atheists as a whole make more money than agnostics (which is my own personal point of view, although I’m technically somewhere between Apathetic Agnostic and Secular Humanist).
Interestingly, atheists also tend to marry later, have fewer children, and are much less likely to get divorced (although comparable for believers who marry later and have similar education levels).

November 14, 2009 at 2:15 PM #483534svelteParticipantI dunno…I think the atheists detect an opportunity as more people become disenchanted with religion.
We’ve just had a decade of the Catholic church denying it participated in child abuse. We’ve had the Mormons fund the defeat of gay marriage. We’ve even had the church insert itself into the current medical insurance debate on the abortion issue.
There probably is a real opportunity here to have more people see the light – that God is just Santa Claus for adults….nothing more than a mirage.

This non-bright theist who got married early and has lots of kids also fails to see the double standard. Mr. Siegel’s observation is, among other things, a non sequitur.
