Josh: I know, dude. I was just funnin’. Promise. I love hippies, actually, and have plans to become one eventually.
However, I’ll be going to St. Helena up in the Napa to spend my days chugging Merlot, smoking indica and reconciling dialectical materialism with Trotskyite Marxism. Actually, I probably won’t be doing that last one, but I will be watching beaucoup “Speed Racer” episodes whilst consuming mass quantities of KFC.

January 4, 2010 at 11:35 PM #499124trexParticipantI’m from Ventura County. Love it and miss it but the jobs for me are here. Enjoy! You can ride your bike down the old rail line to the beach if you miss it.

January 5, 2010 at 6:07 AM #499166Nor-LA-SD-guyParticipant
Enorah, I always knew that you and I were kindred spirits π My partner and I have also decided to move to Ojai (or Carpinteria) in a few months. It is most definitely time to leave L.A. And we, too, are being called. Ojai/Carp is close enough to L.A. to allow us to visit and allow me to tele-commute a few days a week until I am laid off after my contract expires in March 2011. Ihave no bloody idea how my company will survive until then, but if they do I’m getting paid π
We’ve got an organic garden all planned out in our minds, and we have our eyes on a few houses on decent acreage with large back yards and plenty of room for our son and dogs to romp. I don’t think folks are going to adjust easily to the coming *changes* this year, and my sense is that it would be prudent to be around fewer people than more. A peaceful place in the country will be priceless. Perhaps you and I can hang out when we get there!
Funny I know of a retired cop from L.A. City who never had to pull his gun his entire career in L.A. city.
I worked with a guy who was a cop in Montana (he quit) he said he had to pull his gun about once a week.
In short , sometimes there may not be as much crime out in the sticks, but if there is you are much more likely to be affected.
Anyway good luck, Ojai seemed to be a nice place the one day I was in that area. (was going surfing and decided to take a detour one day when the surf was too small but that was many moons ago).
