Most men would probably do well by reading a romance novel or two, just to get a better understanding of how many women think about romance (or hope for it).
Most women would probably do well by watching “The Man Show” just to get a get a better understanding of how many men think about life.
October 29, 2014 at 7:08 AM #779661NotCrankyParticipantI am not going after anyone with this post , O.K. but I was looking at it , it’s kind of funny, an entire blog titled “Why Intelligent Women Read Romance Novels”

Is that still on? I used to like it. I liked Jimmy Kimmel best when he was on “Win Ben Stein’s Money” though.

Probably not enough to get men to read romance novels, anyway.
October 29, 2014 at 1:19 PM #779674FlyerInHiGuestI prefer drama. I still remember reading Edith Wharton in high school. It’s like romance to me but the heroin dies.
October 29, 2014 at 1:35 PM #779675FlyerInHiGuest
But if you controlled your desire for money, you wouldn’t have to.
I’m a little ambivalent about marrying for money so that’s why I haven’t pursued it.
There needs to be a substantial upgrade in lifestyle for me to be tempted. A little won’t be worth it to me.
Plus my freedom is worth quite a bit… I have enough to do what I want now. But still… I’m investing in condos, collecting rent here and there. Seems like I’m working hard, not smart. Would be nice to be able to buy a jet or yacht.
For there to be equal lib, men needs to marry up as frequently as women do. Let’s have women make the money and men can spend it. I’m all for that. I don’t need to feel like I’m the provider for the family.

Does the heroine die of heroin? In any event – FlyerInHi – I keep getting a different impression of your age. Have you ever disclosed it here? Please don’t say it’s 67 or something – then all of this about not having found the right woman would be creepy.

My English teachers were tough. We read all kinds of stuff considered weird by today’s standards.
Ivanhoe was like a romance novel, I recall.
Such strong feelings of love, duty, honor. Hard to imagine today.

Absolutely. That, or whatever many/most men think is an accurate reflection of their views on relationships, women, etc.
We all need to try to understand the other side better — no matter the type of relationship.

Men are very simple creatures. Give us women jumping on trampolines (a man show staple), a beer (a man show staple), and a couple guys to joke around with (a man show staple), and we’re pretty much good. Complicated emotional issues aren’t part of the picture. Until women and their complicated emotional issues show up.
October 30, 2014 at 2:01 PM #779704FlyerInHiGuesthaha, zk. Not quite fair because men are of very high intellect. But they don’t let their emotions control them.
I personally don’t mind women’s emotional issues. The problem I see with emotional people (men and women) is that they want to involve everyone around them.
I want a stoic daughter of a tiger mom.
