Congratulations on coming to the end of your chemo treatment, flu! That is wonderful news. 🙂
Lots of good advice here, but I especially like what OCR, Jazzman, and exsdgal wrote. Go slowly. Most people who lose weight quickly gain it back, and more, just as quickly. It’s a lifestyle change, not a diet and exercise program, so enjoy whatever it is that you eat and do. If not, any success will be short-lived.
Enjoy this new phase of your life! You deserve it after all you’ve been through.

Untimately, it’s up to the individual to match calorie intake to calorie expended.
For overall population health, city planning, access to food, cooking knowledge, addictive properties of food, etc… all play a role.
Food culture evolved when we needed to do a lot of physical activity. Now, many of us live sedentary lives. Why do we insist on eating the same old food, but even richer in calories?
For lunch, burger and fries or Thai mixed veggies with a little chicken?
October 5, 2015 at 9:15 PM #789921moneymakerParticipantFlu sounds like you are doing things right if you are really losing 8 lbs. in 2 months just have to keep it up. To lose that amount of weight you are basically burning 500 more calories than you are taking in per day, that is the best way to lose weight, slow but sure. When I feel like I’m gaining a little too much I hit the treadmill while watching TV. In 30 minutes I will burn 252 calories, that’s 1 oz of fat. So an hour on the treadmill equals 1/4 cup of fat burned. Now granted, running on the beach may be more fun, for me that’s not an option at this time.

You’re doing it wrong.
Like any other exercise, it can be effective or not, depending on how you do it. I went from 21% body fat to 12% body fat over about a year, and have stayed there for 8 years, with no lifestyle changes other than exercising on the elliptical. I have more muscle and my resting heart rate went from 63 to 51.
It’s hard (or it was for me, anyway) to get your heart rate to your maximum heart rate at first, because the muscles you use aren’t built up enough. My muscles tired before I could get the aerobic/anaerobic exercise I wanted. After a couple months, that was no longer the case. I am able to train at maximum intensity (using intervals), and 37 minutes every other day is all I need to keep the weight off/muscle on/heart rate down.
And, as a bonus, no injuries in 9 years of doing the workout.

Others say it’s not a big deal. I figure 1/2 hr in the morning before work and then about 45 mins at night isn’t that much, especially since I’m not really lifting the maximum weights that I can right now…
The other thing is anyone know how much a colon weigh?
I’m trying to compare my weight before all the medical shit happened and after. Right before medical shit, I think my weight was about 179..(which was slightly over). Then they took out my colon, and I think that was about 6-7lbs less, around 172-173, but maybe that was also due partly to me not eating much after surgery and being on a liquid diet. 2 years later on chemo, they told me to eat as much as I can so I went to around 182-3 without the colon…. I’m back down to 174/5, which probably means I’m still over my original weight.

Yep. That’ll take care of salt need.
Unless one makes everything fresh from scratch and deliberate avoids salt, in sauces, etc., there is hardly any worry about getting too little.
You know health when you see it. My 94 yo auntie had not gone to the doctors in 2 years (she used to go twice a year because she had a young handsome doctor at UCSD whom she liked; but he moved away) . Social security called her in because they were worried they were paying a dead person!
