GuestI’ve had a similar problem. One very immature guy in his 40s who couldn’t resist sending me juvenile humor and porn images. Very negative reaction when I asked that he remove me from his group mail list. For a while, I just deleted the images, and eventually came to realize there was nothing in this ‘friendship’ for me. When I stopped returning calls, the e-mails magically disappeared. I am much happier for it

ParticipantIf this person got pissed off due to the fact you asked them not to forward you crap mail daily, then you obviously are better off without them.
Another suggestion for less confrontational types, tell them you have a new email address and provide it. This will get your email address removed and they’ll send the mail to a junk account.

ParticipantMany mail programs will allow you to create rules so you can direct particular email addresses directly to a particular folder out of your inbox. If you wish you can just skim the subject of this folder to make sure it’s all junk and that is much easier than having a mix of junk and good mail. If you have Microsoft Outlook it is called Inbox assistant. In Lotus Notes it is called mail agent or something like that.

ParticipantI thank you all for your advice. So much good stuff. I was gonna get on my elderly dad’s case until someone said to me, “Someday, when he’s gone, you’ll miss his daily offerings terribly.” That’s why I usually just delete his stuff without reading it and wading through the seemingly hundreds of other people who got the e-mail first. I do send him to urban legends sites when he sends me patently ridiculous info, and I ask him to forward the info to all his contacts. But I can’t understand people who are middle-aged like me, such as the woman in my original post, and relatively computer literate who still can’t get the CAN IT message. My 19-year-old NEVER sends me this junk…just asks for money, of course (tee-hee). Thanks again.

Maybe that's because your 19 year old is too busy trying to download porn and wouldn't want to accidentally forward any of it to you. Not to mention, those pay-per-view sites can really rack up expenses…….Just kidding. 🙂

ParticipantFLU–Bwahaha! Mine is a SHE. I’m always changing the kid’s gender or disguising it on various message boards for obvious reasons. More likely than downloading porn, she is downloading racy pics of herself on Facebook. Potential best-selling book: How to find your kid on MySpace or Facebook. So far, no luck. I am not one of her “friends.” Sincerely, Nosy Mother.
