Timothy Leary said we all have our own, “Reality Tunnel”, meaning everybody has a subconscious set of mental “filters” formed from their beliefs and experiences and every individual interprets this same world differently. It seems some have stronger mental “filters” than others.
Speaking of neurocognitive sciences – check out this talk on “Mirror Neurons”, a discovery from the 90s. I bet they’re a causal mechanism in financial bubbles.

I used to be a young Republican if you can believe that.
Then I discovered that there’s no need to be so personally focused and greedy all the time.
Dad was always a Democrat and we talked politics all the time when we were kids. At first I wanted to be different.
Mom was a good housewife and never talked politics.
Grand-parents were arch conservatives.[/quote]
You just can’t stop can you? Just keep right on going with that completely naive mindset that Republicans are all greedy evil doers hell bent on ruining the earth, and that Democrats are here to save us from them. You are the epitome of what the OP is talking about. I don’t know how many times on this site you have been confronted with facts about an issue only to ignore them or just go on some other rant about the evil right wingers. My mental picture of you is that of a bratty child with his fingers in his ear screaming “la la la la la la la la la . . .” whenever you hear something you don’t like.
