to me, the problem isnt really the officers giving a beatdown on the tapes.
its how their partners stand by all cool like, business as usual. an dlie lie lie for their bud
thats what makes it all seem so casual…
its the critical mass of cell cameras and social media that is making it all come to a head.
May 10, 2015 at 8:39 PM #786097scaredyclassicParticipantshoot, fear of a black planet and 911 is a joke is 25 years old. feel like only yesterday i bought the cassette for my walkman.
imagine all the unrecorded beatdowns from 1990 forward….
May 10, 2015 at 8:51 PM #786098scaredyclassicParticipantone perspective is this is just a few bad apples, lets look individually case by case and assume most cops are acting in good faith.
another possibility, not unsupported by tapes and the behavior of the nonaggressor cops, is that this kind of violence is acceptable and toelrable within the law enforcement community.
i just dont see outrage as undermining police authority.
i think outrage is what might preserve police authority.
tolerance is intolerable…
May 10, 2015 at 8:56 PM #786099AnonymousGuestSome progress in the legislature:

(The headline is confusing.)
By banning the use of grand juries, the decision to prosecute officers would rest solely with local district attorneys. Mitchell said forcing district attorneys, who are elected, to deal with these cases would provide accountability.
It’s too easy to meddle with grand juries. Take them out of the process when law enforcement is charged with a crime.

Yes, police brutality exists, and I want to extinguish it as much as anyone, but riots, mass hysteria, and killing cops isn’t going to make it any better. If anything, it will make these problems worse.
I don’t condone the riots and the destruction that came with it. But sometimes that’s the necessary evil. It’s the only thing that people feel they can do to get their voices heard.
Let’s be realistic here. If it wasn’t for the riots and the looting this thread wouldn’t have as much life as it does, let alone major coverage with the news media.

Exactly. Now we have the data.
The powers that be needs to analyze the data and come up with reforms.May 18, 2015 at 11:02 AM #786394no_such_realityParticipant
The U.S. Supreme Court has let stand a civil jury verdict against two Los Angeles police detectives for concealing evidence that kept an innocent man in jail for 27 months awaiting trial.
The justices turned down an appeal Monday from the Los Angeles city attorney who contended that because the innocent man was freed before his trial, the police officers could not be sued for withholding evidence.
Still needs to go further, IMHO, as the police should not be militarized.
May 19, 2015 at 7:26 AM #786437scaredyclassicParticipantMilitarized is a state of mind.
May 19, 2015 at 9:53 AM #786442scaredyclassicParticipantWas thinking about THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Loved it. But really where’s the black people. Barney and Andy would been thumping the crap out of any darks kinned folk if they had the temerity to appear on screen with actual thoughts. That show soothed anerica as the civil rights movement got going. Couldn’t be a faker view of southern cops I think.
Now we internalize the lessons of andy. That he’s a good fair fella. Just ignore that boot he and barney have on the black man’s throat.
May 20, 2015 at 8:49 AM #786467no_such_realityParticipantYes, militarized is a state of mind. I don’t want Andy Griffith either however I don’t want people that are signing up in response to videos that look like they’re made for the latest action shooter video game either.
We all remember the Newport Beach Police recruiting video from 2008?
