[quote=NicMM]Hi Everyone,
It’s been a hectic week. I had to stay in hospital day and night. Thanks for so much helpful information, especially to Diego Mamani. I believe that should be very helpful.
Here is the update. The hospital cost is over $30K. Not sure about the bills from the labs and doctors yet. The financial consultant from the hospital estimated the 3 weeks rehab cost would be $200K to $300k. During consulting, she asked about my father’s insurance (no insurance here), his asset, income and if my father has any life insurance that he can withdraw money from. The answers sure was disappointing to her. I asked about to take my father home for care, she said the doctor has to see if my father is out of the critical condition to release him. The plan was to go to the rehab unit in the hospital. so I thought that my father had to stay in hospital for another 2~3 weeks. But after two days, the doctor gave me a list of names of nursing homes out of the hospital. So I asked to care my father home. The doctor said ok and my father came back home yesterday. I hired a caregiver who speaks our language to take care of him at home and finally I can take a break. I paid out of pocket $500 for emergency room, and paid $?00 for several therapy equipments. Nanny costs less than $2000 a month. Hope he can recover after a month or two. I guess I will not pay the other bills for my father and see how things go.

It’s insane that they would charge someone $200K-$300K for rehab. People could stay at the fanciest hotels with personal trainers and gourmet meals for much less than that. This, in a nutshell, is exactly what’s wrong with our healthcare system. How in the world can they justify these costs?
Nic, I hope your father recovers well. Good to hear he has a caregiver with whom he can communicate, and that you are finally getting some rest. Best wishes to you and your family.
