Guest
What is the best company for technical staff advancement? What is the worst company?
I’m curious why you are asking this, since you live in Temecula. Temecula is not Silicon Valley. If you are in tech, your employment choices are very limited.

ParticipantNot everyone who lives in TV works for a company based in TV,
Just as not everyone who lives in SD works for a company based in SD.
Just ask flu.

ParticipantI hear Qcom (at least if you read the industry rags) is a good company to work for although I have never asked a qcom minion what they think.
From what I have seen if you go into management make sure you keep your hands dirty (keep involved in the engineering) I have seen more than a few colleagues go into management then canned and not able to find work. Seems there really is an overabundance of middle type managers (so much for the go go biz school era of the nineties).
believe it or not there is a shortage of good engineers so that is where I would stay if I could.
Think about being an unemployed would you rather had been a Middle manager or engineer?
As for TV they do have a few Chip companies, but I really have never looked in TV so am not really sure what is available in the way of job’s.

you’re too late to climb the qcom corp ladder starting at ground 1…By about 10 years…..You’re better off taking your chances at a startup.

ParticipantNor-LA-SD-GUY2 – agree that engineers have better job prospects than middle managers in this economy. A lesson from this recession is how important it is to actually produce something superior or bring real value to the table.
Flu – I know several people that have joined startups. Some have failed and moved on. Others are still trying to make it work. It takes talent, hard work, and luck to make it as a start up. It’s not for everyone.
