I have it on my list to watch. It still sits behind The Wire, Band of Brothers, Rome, Firefly, The White Queen and the BBC version of Sherlock. But since I’ve see those twice it’s close to next, right after true detective and before Game of Thrones and Outlander start again.
March 9, 2016 at 12:36 AM #795448scaredyclassicParticipantI wanted to hate it.
I thought it would suck.
I was completely opposed to it.
We were up till 3 watching episode, after episode.
Dammit.
It’s awesome.

We’re in Europe almost every year, and even friends we visit in England love it. You can visit Highclere Castle if you plan to be in the “hood.” It’s about an hour and a half from London.
Also, if you liked Downton, you might want to check these out–Upstairs, Downstairs–Brideshead Revisited–A Room With a View–The Remains of the Day.

No offense intended, must I thought you went to temecula to have space and quality of life to do cool, things? That kind of sounds like nightly binge watching.

Downton is chichi. A period piece with too much modern sensibilities.
Gosford Park, the film is was supposed to be a sequel to is much better. Was is just you and wifey, or the kids loved it too?
March 9, 2016 at 3:17 PM #795504flyerParticipantYeah, but it’s fun chichi, and some of the elder generation of Brits we know (the parents of our friends) are quite authentically represented.
When Downton first arrived on the scene–it was a hot topic at the film festivals we attend all over the world–and not in a good way.
In our case, my wife would never mention how much she’s enjoyed it to her peers in the film business, so it’s simply been a secret guilty pleasure.

It is – but I don’t know if it would have been without Maggie Smith. And Mr. Barrow, who looks just like the guy from the home renovation show Flip or Flop (Tarek El Moussa, I think is his name). Mr. Barrow made a great (somewhat) villain. Don’t know whether the guy from Flip or Flop is a villain.
