We used to have a Newfie. Gosh we adored her. Be prepared for a lot of grooming and finding dried slobber on the ceilings, but they’re worth it. She had a decent sized yard to go out in when she wanted to, but mostly stayed in during the hot part of the day like you said. We would fill a baby pool for her to splash in during the summer. She lived to 13 1/2, which is ancient for a Newfie.
We know of a lady that lives up in the desert that has 3 of them. She said she has a pond on the property and a doggy door for them to go inside in the A/C whenever they want to.
We saw a guy at Fashion Valley a few times that had one named Onslow. I think he was using the dog to pick up women, but we’d stop and pet Onslow everytime anyway.

April 23, 2008 at 5:42 AM #193037eagleeyeParticipantWe have an 11-month-old mini golden doodle puppy. He is an F1 which means he is 50% golden and 50% mini poodle. We had a golden for many years and we miss him dearly but we don’t miss his shedding. This puppy doesn’t shed at all. He is the best dog we’ve ever had. He’s super smart and very well behaved. He was very easy to train. He’s also the perfect size at just 40 lbs. We got him from a breeder in Alabama that has been featured on the Today Show. Check out their website at teddybeargoldendoodles.com. Be prepared for sticker shock though. We paid $2000 last year but the price for one of these puppies is now $2200.
