Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I think I'll end up getting an CanonIS850 or CanonIS950. Haven't decided if the extra $100 would be well spent on the 12.1mp versus 8mp, especially with these point and shoot, I suspect there's a limit how effective a higher res camera would be beyond 6mp.
I do like sony, except unfortunately I'm not a big of memory sticks. I'm sort of bummed that it's getting harder to find simple point and shoot that take the compact flash format. I hate memory sticks and SD cards are yet another format I need to stock now.

Small, compact, durable, decent quality for such a small camera. I’ve traveled all over the world with my Elphs, they take a beating and still work great. Fits perfectly in any pocket without giving you an uncomfortable bulge. I currently own the SD1000 and it’s great. I went with the smaller LCD to get better battery life. I think you can find it for around $150-$175 currently, although there are probably better ones out there nowadays. Seems that every year they just get better and better.
The only issues I have are shared with EVERY point and shoot: red eye is bad, and sometimes it takes a few seconds for the flash to charge, making it difficult to snap fast pics at night. Digital zoom is pretty worthless.

February 24, 2008 at 4:09 PM #159085SD TransplantParticipantI would also back up anything from Canon or Nikon. For mobility, I would recommend the Canon Elph series.
