It’s about precision cut and how well it fits on your body. You know goodlooking when you see it. [/quote]The theme seems to be that a well-fitted suit is paramount. Is that about the tailor, or what? Or is any custom-fitted suit generally going to come out ok?
Reminds me of a joke.
December 26, 2014 at 5:11 PM #781424CoronitaParticipantMan, I guess I’m missing out all the fun… As an enginerd I think I have 1 suit… And the last time I wore it was to a fundraiser dinner with my kid..
The last time I wore a suit for work was….Jan 2002 for an interview…And then afterwards, all my interviews were just in semi-formal collared shirt and dark pants….And even then, I think I was slightly overdressed.
So how much does one expect to spend for a “decent” suit….roughly?

I don’t usually need a suit except at weddings, funerals, a very occasional work purpose, etc. I didn’t really know how much a decent one cost, because I’ve only bought cheap ones (and then only one every 5 or 8 years). I was thinking somewhere between $400-$1000. I looked at Brooks Brothers on line and they have some on sale for $600-$650. I was leaning towards that, based on recommendations here.
December 26, 2014 at 7:18 PM #781429FlyerInHiGuestSounds about right zk. I feel for you. It’s incredibly frustrating to shop for a particular thing.
Most of my stuff, I chance upon. I’ve paid $200 for a suit on sale.
I like to wear jeans or slacks with a sport coat or suit jacket. It’s neater. I’m partial to military or uniform inspired look.
Many women dress better than their husbands. They have designer clothes and accessories. It would do men good to dress well. When you dress well, you feel better and you take better care of yourself.

go to nordtrom rack with him and have him try stuff on? some discount there….also when you get a nordstrom credit card you get 100 in free tailoring every year which is pretty cool actually.
ive been through a lo t of suits and do bestw ith light wool. they last a while but do get shabby with heavy wear.
i had a favorite suit wher e i wore a hole thru the elbows. that was kind of satsifying.

December 26, 2014 at 10:11 PM #781433CoronitaParticipantI guess this one isn’t cheap, but not something one would want to wear to a job… 🙂

I’m so out of touch with suits, it’s not even funny.. $200 to $600 seems like a big difference.. What do you get with a $600 suit you don’t get with a $200 suit? More importantly, how do I know if I were to spend $600 suit, it’s really not a $200 suit that’s marked up to $600? What are the things to look out for that would scream “this is a cheap suit”?
December 26, 2014 at 11:01 PM #781434FlyerInHiGuestAsk your wife the difference between a Coach and a Louis Vuitton hand bag. Yes the label. But what about if they were unmarked?
