i got a little scared about mitt romney winning right at the last moment, not because i want obama to win, but i suddenly just got worried about the prosect of any change. I just kind of want things to remain the same. I kind of want things to always be like they were for me from 2003-2012.
November 6, 2012 at 9:09 PM #753858FlyerInHiGuestGive me a break. Look at the map. You think the rednecks have 401ks?

November 6, 2012 at 10:21 PM #753863anParticipantWhat’s very interesting is, even though the electoral vote was won by a landslide, the popular vote is much closer at 49% vs 49% right now with only 291097 vote separating the two.
I guess we can expect the next 4 years to be similar to the last 2 years with the house being controlled by the Republicans and Democrats controlling the Senate and the White House. Fiscal cliff, here we come.
November 6, 2012 at 10:37 PM #753867spdrunParticipantGood. Here’s hoping to see DOW 12k or lower in the next few months.
Oh yeah, and a lot of the coming cuts are to the military – we’ve been overspending in that respect since 9/11 and no one has had the cojones to put a stop to it.
November 6, 2012 at 10:57 PM #753869flyerParticipantHistorically, I’ve been a very patriotic person, but, as someone mentioned in an article I read recently–beyond a “popularity contest,” I, too, never believed the outcome of this election will make much difference in the “real lives” of most Americans. I guess only time will tell.
As now, IMHO, in four more years, eight more years, twelve more years, etc., etc., I believe that 5% or less of the population will still hold the wealth in this country–so, looking at the financial realities of our country–I don’t really see how the “American Dream” will materialize for more people based upon any particular elected official.
Since most of us “Piggs” are in that 5%, I realize there could be some financial challenges imposed along the way, but nothing we can’t handle.
That is one way to look at it.
The other way to look at it is that at about 50% of popular vote, Obama is doing about as good as other re-elected presidents in recent history
For example
Clinton (1996) – 49.2%
Bush (2004) – 50.7%Getting reelected with a landslide in national vote seems to be more common before Clinton.

Interesting data. I didn’t know it was that close for past reelected presidents as well. I wonder why?Secondly, why is there such a big discrepancy between the popular vs electoral votes? If it’s due to demographics, would it mean the Republicans are done for unless they start to change their platform? Based on what I heard from various news channels, it seems like the Lantinos and Black votes in some very key state really made a huge difference.

Actually, I think during this time, it will be a great opportunity for the smart money to really milk this for all it is….We’re gonna be spending more and more money, no doubt. Smart people will get on the bandwagon and milk it like there is no tomorrow…
Time to buy more property.. Rates are gonna stay low, we’re gonna have more bailouts…It’s all good…Worry about our kid’s future later. If you have a nestegg established, who cares about everyone else’s kid that doesn’t… Their problem, not yours… You’re kidding yourself if you think most americans (democrats or republicans) really care anymore about the future…They want their HELOC loans back damnit now, so they can get into a BMW for $300/month! Did anyone notice the surge of new cars in SD recently? Good times are here again!
Frankly, I’m crossing the line and milk this… ….Stay tuned.
One thing for sure… If you got a lot of stock/stock options…This year’s the year to dump them lol…

Frankly, I’m crossing the line and gonna join them… Time to get a RE license….Stay tuned.
Hell yeah it’s time to milk it. I’m loving this low and ever declining mortgage rate. It has been paying for my property tax and insurance for the last 2 years. Seems like I have at least 2-4 years of free property tax and insurance.
I’m with you on the RE license. I’m pondering getting one myself.

Obama received a total of 69,456,897 (52.9%) popular votes.
McCain received a total of 59,934,814 (45.7%) popular votes.
10 million votes not a landslide?

Yes, that was somewhat of a landslide. But not nearly as big of a landslide as the Reagan vs Mondale 1984 election. CA and NY went red. 54,455,472 (58.8%) vs 37,577,352 (40.6%) popular vote and 525 vs 13 electoral vote. Now, that’s what I’d call a huge landslide AND it was from a re-election no less. I’d like to see one of those again in my life time.
