My original post is actually about congress and the senate. The fact that Republican legislators consistently vote as one single mind.
Not supported by facts in evidence and both parties are presently trying to force their elected members to vote along party lines – Democrat and Republican both.
That response would have been a little more substantial if it had some…um, facts.
Sorry, I didn’t realize how firmly the rose colored glasses were ‘implanted’. Try starting at “Blue Dog Coalition”.. and work outwards. (Google would be a good start with those keywords)
What’s unique about the Republican party we have today is that their only purpose is to obstruct.
They both obstruct and filibuster, if it suits their purpose. Just because the Republicans do it on bills you personally want passed doesn’t make it any different than when the Democratic Party does it on bills you don’t want passed. Try starting with “Democrate filibuster”.. and work outwards. Realize that the numbers you are pointing to are for recent items when the Democrats controlled House and Senate. Try looking for when Republicans controlled House and Senate. The “Filibuster” is the only way that a minority party vote can effect changes because it requires a (3/5th or 2/3s depending upon conditions) vote to stop as opposed to a simple majority. This was intentionally placed as a legitimate behavior by the founding fathers because they were worried about “Abuse of power by the majority”..
The other thing that can happen with a Filibuster is to decide to “move to other business”.. which puts the debate/bill etc on hold. The majority party can decide to do this to get other important business done and then get back to the item being Filibustered.
Stewart then played a reel of clips showing conservative pundits and commentators insisting that Obama release everything from his college grades to Michelle Obama’s Princeton senior thesis to the President’s long-form birth certificate”
Birthcert is relevant because of requirements of office, but all the other is basically irrelevant. The extreme demands from either side are irrelevant and should be treated as such.
Releasing tax returns isn’t a rule, but it is a convention, and conventions change. The modern standard is to basically full disclosure once a candidate is on the ticket:
I was not cherry picking.. The question then becomes: Are you choosing ‘conventions’ because it suits your opinion and the opinion of your Political Party? Should the opinion of your Political Party change on the subject of released material.. then would it be the opinion that the ‘standard’ for releases now change? Why should it be the sole opinion of one political party that guides ‘convention’? I was demonstrating that the history was to NOT show that info. There is a point where releasing info can cause risk to the individual at the same time becoming more of a ‘entertainment sideshow’ to the real issues of matter.
In Terms of Romney’s tax returns; it passed IRS muster, and IRS is looking at all tax returns above $100k of income (Advantages of computers these days). I know because they corrected a stupid math error of mine on one year. I back checked the other years and no errors. My 1040s are fairly boring, no special deductions to raise flags. If you don’t like the tax laws.. get them changed. Don’t blame someone who tries to take as many tax advantages while operating within the law.
However his success as being effectively a business broker just won’t sit well with the American people in a time where business “hustlers” are perceived as the source of many of the country’s woes.
True, but here is the problem in there. Instead of making the country less favorable to businesses, we make it more.. then companies may not be looking to offshore. This is the true source of the problem. As I mentioned earlier, several actions.. including the action relative to the Unions and Bondholders with respect to GM’s bankruptcy, have unintended consequences. It is easier to blame a ‘business broker’ than to try to understand why it is more effective for a business to outsource than to keep operating within the country. All the Business broker does is find the most effective use of capital. Again.. I repeat the question I made earlier:
Berkshire Hathaway was a specific business that did something before Warren Buffet took ownership. After he took ownership, all the jobs went away.. and it became a holding company. What was that business
