I’m not defending Bush or Obama. Not giving credit to one “side” or the other. Unlike Brian, I don’t see this as a team thing where you pick a team to root for and ignore any faults of that team.
UCGal, you’re a better person than me.
I just find it disingenuous that some convervatives proclaim “they all equally suck” after they are all done cheering for their team.
Humm…. suddenly a change of heart. How convenient.
Remember during the campaign when they made all kinds of excuses for Palin and argued that she was a credible candidate? What a joke that was.
Brian: Oh, please, spare me the mendacious moralizing. No one on this board is more Dem versus GOP than you. You seem incapable, at nearly a molecular level, of even contemplating that Obama and Co. might be wrong.
As to the “they all suck” comparison: Well, they DO all suck. Hence the dismal approval rating for both Obama AND Congress, the Dems and the GOP.
But do not wrap yourself in that particular flag, because its bullshit and you know it. I simply responded to a blatantly false assertion. It had nothing to do with the Dems or GOP being “better”, but rather an acknowledgment that the pursuit of bin Laden has taken nearly ten years, spanned two presidents and incorporated literally thousands of people from multiple agencies and branches of the service.

It was work that started during the Clinton Administration. In fact Clinton mentioned OBL by name in a speech.
Prior to 9/11, George W. Bush had ample warning that OBL might be organizing a terrorist attack on the USA.
If you will remember, prior to 9/11, Bush had no focus on security. In fact, Rumsfeld wanted to rightsize the military. Republicans wanted to outsource airport security. Prior to 9/11 it was all about tax cuts.
But I do agree with you that the pursuit of OBL spanned many years, across the administrations of several presidents. The Obama Administration, and the people he put in place, succeeded in getting Bin Laden.
Just because I choose to stay silent on some issues doesn’t mean that I approve of everything Obama does, and that I believe that he can do no wrong.
I choose to focus on the excellent personality that Obama possesses and on the good that Obama has done, and is trying to do.
Just remember that comes election time.
I just think that it’s pretty convenient for conservatives to claim “they all suck” after they lost.
During the presidential campaign of 2008, conservatives made up all kinds of excuses for Palin. They said that she was a relevant and credible candidate for VP, despite all the interviews that she bungled, and despite all the interviews that she refused to grant because she is incapable of thinking and speaking coherently.
So, as far as excusing incompetence, there you have it. Those who gave any credence to Palin or voted for her really need to self-examine.

May 3, 2011 at 1:33 PM #691673HobieParticipantNot sure how you define bungled, but probably the instances where she ‘bungled’ is just what people can personally relate and like.
People are getting tired of politicians that are too polished and smooth. Fast talking, slick are terms that can be applied equally to both parties.
Palin personality comes off more genuine and real. And this is why she continues to have audiences.
” they all suck” is a fine description as we all voted for one who ‘sucked’ less. Hence the winners percentage margins. If any candidate was truly exceptional, they would pull much larger percentage wins.
